About Demiro's

Demiro's is an Italian restaurant on Mermaid Quay in Cardiff, set on the Cardiff Bay waterfront in a red, mirrored room with Broadway-style decor. The menu blends Italian, Spanish and Welsh dishes, and the kitchen turns out prawn cocktail, lamb shank and faggots. A three-course lunchtime special runs alongside the standard menu, a festive menu appears seasonally, and the drinks list is extensive. Entertainment comes from a live singer or singing waiter, though not on every visit, so check beforehand. Dogs are welcome.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers split sharply on Demiro's, and the friendliest staff are the most consistent thread, with several describing welcoming, humorous waiters, a birthday cake brought out with a sparkling candle and singing, and biscuits and water set out for a dog. The singing waiter and live singer get praise as entertainment, though one diner found no music at all. Dishes draw praise for the calamari starter, penne salmon, pollo napoletano and generous faggots, while the sirloin gets mixed reactions. The complaints carry real weight. Chicken diane was too salty for a whole table, a lamb shank had to be swapped, and a mushroom focaccia arrived on a sweet brioche bun. Others describe long gaps for food, forgotten drinks, another table's food offered to them, and a main course and dessert that were unavailable. One walked out before ordering, and another called the meal overpriced for the quality. Lunch and festive set menus are noted as good value.

“Food was delicious when we finally got it is the only positive thing I can say. We waited an hour and a half for our food to arrive, we were constantly ignored by the waiting staff. One of the waitress actually snatched the menus off one of our party. Not that I went in but my husband said that the men's room was absolutely disgusting. We went to celebrate a birthday expecting live music but there was none on in fact there was no music at all. All around us people where complaining that they hadn't got there food and one couple actually walked out they waited so long. We will definitely not be going back.”

“Very disappointing meals. Chicken diane was far too salty for everyone who had this dish. Lamb shank was inedible and had to be changed for a different meal. Although the meals were well presented just wished they tasted better. I haven’t had peppered broccoli and carrots before a new experience for us all. The chef needs to review the contents of the sauce as its saltiness ruined the whole meal. Such a shame that not one of us enjoyed our meal. We definitely would not return or recommend this restaurant. This is first time I have ever left a negative review. On a positive note the staff were lovely and we had a nice welcome when we arrived”

“Beautiful location on a sunny day! We had made a reservation and they hadn't written it down, luckily it wasn't that busy when we arrived Sadly they weren't able to offer me the main course I ordered. My second option turned up and the vegetables were hotter than the chicken! Ordered dessert and 5 minutes later, I was told they didn't have any of that either! The staff could have been a bit more apologetic and attentive at the table.”

“Place looked lovely, clean with a good atmosphere. Unfortunately we were not able to eat here. We were served quickly for drinks, however they forgot my boyfriend's lager, then proceeded to ignore us for over 20 minutes, tried to give us another table's food, then still didn't take our order for food when we asked. We ended up going to the bar to pay for our drinks and leave to eat elsewhere. Such a shame as the menu looked lovely.”

“I’ve been twice now and won’t go anywhere else amazing and quick service, friendly staff, amazing food never waiting long and always so fresh and piping hot. If you haven’t been here you’re missing out and you need to try because once you’ve tried you won’t be disappointed and will never want to go anywhere else I know I don’t. Our first visit was Halloween for my mums bday they went above and beyond and when they overheard it was her birthday after food they surprised her and came out with a massive slice of cake with a sparkling candle singing happy birthday. We didn’t ask them to do this or even know they were going to. They went that extra mile which made my mum feel so special so an extra big thank you for that. Thank you to all the staff for the most amazing time we have while dining here”
