Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the friendly, hard-working staff, with several describing one server who looks after a busy room while staying welcoming, and another who made a family feel well taken care of. Food comes close behind: vegetarian and regular burgers with fresh chips, a three-course Christmas roast dinner called very good value, and a Mixed Grill with steak cooked as ordered. One diner says the kitchen adjusted meals to suit their needs. The drinks selection earns praise too, and one reviewer describes a packed England match night with big screens and quick service despite the crowd. The criticism is specific. A family who have eaten there for years describe a barmaid objecting when a diabetic mother added sugar-free flavouring to her tap water. She kept refusing after the diabetes was explained and offered to fetch the general manager instead. Another visitor skipped food because customers nearby were swearing loudly. Even the unhappy diner still called the food and service good.

“Watched England vs Norway match on Saturday night at the Spread Eagle (Bury St.Edmunds) and honestly—what a vibe The place was absolutely buzzing, packed with fans, big screens everywhere so you don’t miss a second, and the atmosphere was exactly what you want for football. Every goal, every chance—people were on their feet, shouting, celebrating together. Proper matchday energy. Drinks were flowing, service was quick even though it was busy (which says a lot), and the whole pub just had that friendly, lively feel. It’s the kind of place where you end up chatting with people around you like you’ve known them for years. Perfect spot to watch big games—will 100% be back!”

“Lovely place, lovely food, lovely people! I came here with my family not too long ago and a lovely young lady called Ellise made sure we were well taken care of. Would highly recommend!”

“Went to Spead Eagle last night with friends and had a meeting. Was the first time since the new menu and Mixed Grill has been introduced. Ordered this and was very nice meal. Steak was cooked as ordered and the whole meal was very tasty. Definitely recommend and order again. Staff really friendly and service was very quick.”

“Brilliant choice of drinks and the staff are very friendly. We just had a drink and waited for the car to charge but didn't stay for food, mostly because the group next to us had a massively excessive use of colourful language that we didn't overly feel like sticking around to listen to for longer than necessary.”

“Visted this pub for lunch today with my wife. I'm a pub reviewer and have been to many greene king pubs but I was blown away by the service and friendliness from chelle. She was very professional and is a real credit to this pub. Well done spread Eagle for finding this wonderful member of staff. The food was of excellent quality and value for money”
