About MTR1924 Bristol
MTR1924 Bristol cooks pure-vegetarian South Indian food in the Karnataka and Bangalore style, from 79 Gloucester Rd in North Bristol. Dosas anchor the menu, with the benne masala dosa among them, and rava idli and bisi bele bath sit alongside. Kannada music plays through the room and Kannada signboards line it. The team checks spice levels and notes allergies when you order, passing adjustments through to the kitchen. Reservations are recommended, particularly around lunch. A step-free, wheelchair-accessible entrance means visitors with mobility needs can get in without help. Parking is limited to street-side spaces nearby, so factor that in when planning a visit. The kitchen runs Tuesday to Sunday and closes on Mondays. The MTR name also has a branch in London.

Customer Review Summary
Dosas anchor nearly every account, with the benne masala dosa singled out most often, followed closely by the onion rava masala dosa and podi masala dosa, and children in two parties going for the chocolate and cheese dosa. Close behind, diners name the rava idli, podi idli, bonda soup, curd vada, bisi bele bath and filter coffee, with one visitor calling the mango lassi the best they had drunk. Several describe the food as authentic Karnataka or Bangalorean cooking, and one mentions Kannada music and signboards adding to that feeling. Staff come across as friendly and quick even when the room is full. The recurring practical gripe is parking, which two reviewers call tricky, noting only street parking nearby, and weekends draw crowds, prompting one group to suggest booking a table at peak times. One reviewer highlights a server taking time during a busy service to record allergies and remove the boondi from a curd vada as asked.

“Hands down one of the best South Indian restaurant I've been to! The menu is limited but I think, that's the reason why their food is spot-on! I dine here twice a week minimum. Reasonably priced. Friendly staff who accommodate requests to the chef. Highly recommended. But parking can be a bit tricky”

“This MTR restaurant in Bristol offers authentic Indian food. Everything tastes just like you’d expect from India. It’s much larger than the London branch. The service was great and speedy. For a weekday lunch, it was almost empty so you shouldn’t have to wait. However weekends can be busy.”

“Popped in for a quick Saturday lunch and ended up really impressed. Service was quick, and they even checked whether the mild spice level needed adjusting, which was a thoughtful touch. The food looked great, tasted fresh, and was excellent value without feeling heavy afterwards. The whole place has a relaxed, cosy vibe. We’ll definitely be back—this spot is a real vegetarian gem.”

“Fresh and tasty food. Very authentic Karnataka food! Flavours are spot-on. Felt like eating in Bangalore. Service was fast. Despite being busy, waiter took time to note down the allergies and served food without them (removing boondi from curd vada as requested etc). Ordered benne masala dosa, onion rava masala dosa, rava idli, curd vada, bonda soup, masala puri, vada and filter coffee. Everything tasted great especially benne masala dosa, rava idly and bonda soup. We (group of 5) went for lunch on a Saturday. It was crowded. As we booked the table, we didn't had to wait. So recommend booking the table if you plan to go during peak hours/holidays. Would love to recommend and also to return!”

“I am not a big fan of indian vegeterian food, but we loved this place. The staff was really nice, we drank the best mango lassi and ate the best chocolate dosa. Thank you”
