Quick info
About Mamma P's
Mamma P's is a Jamaican restaurant at 611 Fishponds Rd in Bristol. Chicken soup is served on Saturdays, so that day has a dish the rest of the week does not. The regular menu includes jerk chicken served with rice and peas, and curry goat for diners who want a curry. Meals come in large boxes packed with rice, beans, caramelised onions and carrots, which makes a single order a full plate.

Customer Review Summary
Jerk chicken is the dish reviewers mention most, and opinions split. Some call it tender and juicy with smoky flavour, or moist inside and not too dry, while one takeaway diner found it severely salty and dry. Oxtail stew comes close behind, described by repeat customers as tender and full of flavour. Also praised are a Saturday chicken soup, jolof rice, dumplings that are not oily, fried chicken thighs with crispy skin, and well filled chicken patties. Several mention large portions and friendly staff. The complaints centre on curries and sides. Reviewers describe curry goat and curry chicken with little meat or mostly bone, rice that is dry or oily, and plantain full of oil. One delivery customer also found a few menu items unavailable. One reviewer claims undercooked rice and raw chicken and says they were poisoned. Another reports finding a hair in a curry goat ordered through Uber and getting no refund.

“Ordered delivery. Arrived quick. Great portion sizes, patties were well filled and tasted like the Caribbean ones we have had before. Great value. Only thing holding back from a 5 star is they had a few items not available on the menu and could be more meat in the curry goat and curry chicken that we purchased.”

“Do not order from this restaurant you will be poisoned the food is beyond a joke. The rice was under cooked the chicken was raw and the curry was like it came from a tin”

“Ordered takeaway. Jerk chicken had potential - severely salty and very dry. Either it was reheated for my order or it was overcooked. It could have definitely used less salt and more spice. I appreciate spice can be difficult as everyone tolerates different levels but the salt genuinely made me chug a whole bottle of water. Rice and beans were okay - also dry. It went well with the goat curry though. Slightly disappointed but not the worst I have had for UK standards.”
