Quick info
About Ji The Chicken Shop (Bristol)
Ji The Chicken Shop (Bristol) is a Taiwanese fried chicken restaurant at 5 Queens Rd in Bristol, serving bubble tea and milk tea alongside the chicken. The Cheesy Volcano Chicken is a chicken breast stuffed with melted cheese, battered and fried in a Taiwanese street food style, which gives cheese lovers a filled option beyond plain fried pieces. Popcorn chicken and crispy king prawns sit alongside it, and fried items can be topped with a choice of seasonings, including a spicy option and a sweet and tangy plum seasoning. Meal deals pair fries with a soft drink. The chicken is halal, and a halal sign hangs outside. The shop is small and often packed, so a wait at busy times is common.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often single out the Cheesy Volcano Chicken, thick chicken stuffed with gooey melted cheese, with a spicy coating praised for its nice after heat. Close behind are the plum chips and plum seasoning, described as sweet with a tangy edge, along with popcorn chicken, boneless chicken thighs, king prawns and crispy chicken skin. Several mention the halal sign and generous portions. The recurring complaint is the batter. One reviewer found it too oily on both the chicken and the prawns and peeled it off, and another says the chili heat varies from visit to visit. One reviewer reports undercooked chicken and hot wings that were also overly salty. The caramel milk tea was called bitter with no caramel taste. Others describe a small, constantly packed shop with a long wait. One Uber takeaway order arrived as a mix of warm and cold popcorn chicken, and the shop replaced it when the customer came straight back.

“A brilliant find for halal chicken in Bristol After arriving in Bristol, we spent quite a while looking for a good halal restaurant and, honestly, struggled to find one nearby. Then, while walking around, we came across JI The Chicken Shop and noticed the halal sign outside. I was pleasantly surprised, although I still went inside and double-checked with the staff before ordering. We went for two meal deals: a Chicken Breast Meal Deal (£12.50) and a Boneless Chicken Thigh Meal Deal (£12). Both came with fries and a soft drink. The portions were more than sufficient, particularly for a meal deal at these prices, and everything was fresh, tasty and nicely prepared. The chicken was enjoyable, the fries were good, and overall the meals offered very decent value for money. What I particularly appreciated was finding a halal option without having to compromise on the overall quality or choice of meal. For anyone visiting Bristol and looking for halal food, I would definitely recommend giving this place a try. It is also a good option for anyone who simply enjoys a decent chicken meal, regardless of whether they specifically need halal food. Overall, a very pleasant find during our visit to Bristol. Good portions, reasonable prices and tasty food. I would happily come back again.”

“The chicken was really nice and filling but the caramel milk tea is another story. There’s no taste of caramel and there’s a bitter taste to it making it slightly unpleasant but still drinkable”

“This is the best fried chicken I've ever had here, with just the right seasoning and frying. Plum is my favorite and the price is also quite good”
