About Presuming Ed's Coffee House
Presuming Ed's Coffee House is a coffee shop at 114 London Rd in Brighton, run as a cafe and bar hybrid with a licensed bar and craft beers. The coffee list offers a wide choice of beans as well as filtered batch coffee, and a refill discount applies on coffee. Food centres on toasties, including a vegan toastie, with other vegan and vegetarian options on the menu. Out back, a beer garden with street art sits behind the cafe and bar. The business also hosts the annual South Coast Barista Jam, a fundraiser that gives the coffee side of the house a yearly event of its own.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the toasties, including a vegan one, alongside coffee that includes filtered batch coffee, a house blend and builders tea, all described as good value. Several praise the friendly, chatty staff, and one says they remembered a drink order a week later. The decor is repeatedly called quirky, eclectic and punk, with a chilled, lived-in feel, and the front and back outdoor seating gets mentions, including a beer garden with street art. Reviewers also like the craft beer choice, vegan options, homemade-looking cakes and the laptop-friendly wifi, plus a discount on refills. One enjoyed the escape room. The main complaint is that one reviewer found the music too loud for the morning, and another felt the place is self-consciously alternative, with a pint of house lager that seemed pricey for all the talk of it being un-gentrified. One reviewer recalled the owner or manager going out to buy limes when the gin and tonics had none.

“Me and my wife have been here a few times in the past, and returned for the first time in a while last week. We were served by Emily who was an absolute star, her humour and overall charisma really made our experience and lifted our spirits.”

“This is a really great place with a funky interior and lots of character. The toasties here were a great deal and were all around £3.50. The builders tea was also £2.50 which made it quite affordable. Would come back again”

“Self-consciously alternative cafe bar. For all the talk in the comments here about being "un-gentrified" it's still 6.30 a pint of the house lager. Not for me but not a bad place. Sandwiches and breakfast rolls looked good.”
