  “We came to your restaurant on 22nd August, there was 26 of us for our nephews 21st. We was served by a lovely young lady named Courtney, she is a credit to your establishment she went above and beyond nothing was any trouble. Made everyone feel welcome chatting and generally a very lovely girl. We all had a great time”

  “Our first visit at lunchtime and it was very enjoyable. A large selection of starters and mains to choose from with two courses costing £16.90. My wife had Tzatziki and a halloumi wrap with chips and I went for the chicken livers followed by chicken sama beyti, all very tasty.”

  “Father’s Day , forced set menu only , chose 2 humus starters 2 kebabs 2 beers paid £120! The food is generally good but every time I go there I end up paying more for the same food and I see fewer customers dining there. They do have super load customers who seem to swallow megaphones before their visit so if that’s called atmosphere they certainly have it most of the time. Too expensive for this kind of food and too loud if you want a peaceful night out .”

  “I’ve been a regular customer at Mesken in Shenfield and have spent a significant amount of time and money there over the years, which makes this even more disappointing. I have now discovered that all of the meat served is halal, with no non-halal alternatives available. This is not stated anywhere on the website or menu. That is completely unacceptable. Customers are being denied the basic information needed to make an informed choice about what they are eating. I have clear ethical concerns about halal slaughter methods and would never have chosen to dine here had this been made transparent from the outset. This is not a minor detail — it is a fundamental aspect of how the food is prepared. This is not about criticising beliefs, it is about honesty. Restaurants have a responsibility to be open with their customers, and failing to clearly disclose something this significant falls well below what should be expected. Customers should not have to ask or investigate to find out how their food is sourced. It should be clearly stated. Due to this lack of transparency, I will not be returning.”

  “First time at the Mesken with relatives who live nearby in Hutton. The food was delicious and the service cheerful and responsive. We would, however, have liked to see more platter-type dishes, where families can share a mix of different parts of the menu (as opposed to individual dishes). The ambience and decor of the Mesken are classy, spacious, airy, and tastefully adorned. Overall, The Mesken is a delightful restaurant to have in little Hutton. Can't wait to come back again.”

  “Had a lovely meal here for my son’s 21st Birthday. Staff are attentive and friendly. Food and drinks excellent and we had a really enjoyable family time. Nice for 10 of us all be seated together (some restaurants split you into different tables). We brought balloons for the table and the staff helped us to present a birthday cake and sang happy birthday. It was definitely birthday night with other diners celebrating birthdays too. The bill was very reasonable. We had a great time, with great food. Thanks for accommodating us .”

  “The food was delicious and nicely presented. The staff and the venue were very nice, so we would certainly return. I cannot comment on the price, as me and my husband were invited by some relatives, so we did not pay ourselves, but because the food was amazingly tasty, I would definitely recommend this to other people.”

  “The food was exceptionally good and the service very attentive. There were 7 of us and everyone loved all their dishes. My steak was so succulent. My wife even enjoyed her lamb stew type dish (as you can tell from my description, I am not a food writer). The fact that she enjoyed her dish was good for me. Usually in a restaurant she orders something she doesn't like and then says those dreaded words: 'I'll just share some of yours'. As you can imagine I am filled with joy when I hear those words!! I think to myself: I was looking forward to child portions!! So in Mesken we bypassed that routine and I enjoyed ALL of my juicy steak 😀 The cocktails were also very good. I have been to places where there is more ice than liquid but here the ratio was right. This was our first outing after the lockdown. We initially sat outside but it got chilly quickly but the staff were very quick in arranging a table for 7 inside. I will definitely visit again.”
