About Omars

Omars is a Kashmiri restaurant at 46 Great Horton Rd in Bradford, built around a giant family naan. Old news articles about a naan-eating holiday prize are displayed inside, so the bread's story is on the walls as well as on the plate. The menu includes lamb curry and other lamb dishes, along with chicken tikka masala, and vegetarian options sit alongside the meat dishes. The kitchen also serves late-night diners.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often come back to the enormous naan, called one of the best they have had in the UK, with the family naan and a giant naan also named. Close behind are the curries, with the lamb and fish specials described as really good, and a starters mix grill and the desserts, which one diner called excellent. Staff are often described as friendly, and one reviewer says they sorted things faster for theatre-goers. Complaints are mixed. One diner found the lamb overcooked and falling apart, another called the main dish a lamb stew rather than a curry, and the chicken tikka masala was called a flavourless sliced lump in a takeaway style. One reviewer said service was slow and inattentive with most tables empty, and another noted little atmosphere midweek. One diner was unhappy that a waiter stacked dishes on leftover naan and main before they could ask to take it home.

“Tasty Food, but a Very Serious Food Safety Concern ⭐⭐ Three of us visited on Tuesday evening and ordered the lamb and spinach, chicken daal, roti, and a plate of salad. The curries and roti were tasty and, based on the food alone, we would have had a positive experience. Unfortunately, the salad completely changed our impression of the evening. One of our group dipped into the salad and, when he put it into his mouth, discovered a piece of broken glass. This was immediately brought to the attention of the owners. What concerned us almost as much as finding the glass was the apparent lack of concern about the seriousness of the incident. This was not simply a minor mistake in presentation. Had the glass been swallowed, it could potentially have caused a cut to the mouth or tongue, or much more serious injury to the throat or digestive tract. We appreciate that mistakes can happen, but when it comes to food safety, there should be an immediate and appropriate response when something as serious as broken glass is found in food. The food itself was enjoyable, but unfortunately the handling of this incident left us very disappointed. If you visit, be aware that, in our experience, the attention to detail and food-safety standards fell well short of what we would expect.”

“I ordered the starters mix grill and they were really good. Had the chicken and the lamb, the chicken was great but the lamb was over cooked and falling apart. The giant naan was amazing and the desserts were spot on. Not many restaurants focus on desserts but these were excellent. Just missed out on a five star rating, even though we finished our food the waiter placed dishes onto the food we wanted to take home. He asked us if we were finished and quickly placed food on top of each other before we could say we like to take the remainder, I was not impressed as there was over half a large naan left and over half main dish left. It takes years to gain stars and seconds to lose stars. Absolute no patience.”

“If you are in the great City of Bradford and fancy a curry , then this is NOT the place for you. How it has stayed open this long is a real mystery. We excitedly headed over after a Bradford City match this Tuesday - looking forward to scratching our curry itch. But what we were served I would only describe as some sort of Lamb stew. An insult to the word “curry”. Even their “famous” family naan was distinctly below average. Avoid this place at all costs and hit somewhere like Sultans or Punjab sweet house is my advice”

“A lovely place. In my opinion, one of the best spots for Asian food. The presentation, taste, and atmosphere are all 10/10. The naan is especially good and definitely recommended if you’re visiting for the first time. The staff are very friendly, and overall it was a great experience.”

“Food tasty and traditional. Decor inside could be improved. The old news articles about a holiday to win from eating a nann are fun to read. No atmosphere when we went, which was mid week.”
