About Karachi Restaurant

Karachi Restaurant works as a plain, pared-back curry house on Neal Street in Bradford, where chapatis come to the table in place of knives and forks. The kitchen runs a menu of around 120 dishes, from the Onion Bhaji and a mixed starter platter to chicken biryani. Diners bring their own alcohol, which keeps the meal informal, and payment is cash only, so it pays to arrive prepared. Tables work on a walk-in basis with no reservations taken, and the doors open daily. High chairs are on hand for families with young children, and the same food can be ordered to take away and eaten off site. Chai rounds out the drinks served alongside the curries.

Customer Review Summary

Curries are the draw here, praised repeatedly as authentic, tasty and good value, with several regulars calling it their first choice in Bradford. A mixed starter platter described as huge, chicken biryani and a chai, and chicken pakoras with onion bhaji come up by name, as does the bring your own alcohol arrangement and the chapatis served in place of knives and forks. Warm welcomes and fast food from ordering recur, and several say the stripped back, fuss free setting is worth a visit. The dissent is substantial, though. One diner found the food bland, uninspired and overpriced. Another rated the curries highly but described slow service, having to ask for a water refill and another round of soft drinks, and mint sauce that never arrived, adding that prices no longer match the plain surroundings they remembered from years ago. One reviewer sent a mixed platter back after a few bites as refried, greasy and tasteless, and noted receiving no apology for it.

Cool residential conversion to curry house. Nice and spicy, chapatis are included to rat your food rather than knives and forks. Worth a visit if in town.

If the city wasn't already depressing enough, the food certainly finishes the job. Judging by the glowing reviews, I can only assume they're written by people who've never eaten anywhere else. Bland, uninspired, and somehow still overpriced—it's impressive, really. This wasn't a meal; it was a reminder that disappointment can, in fact, be served on a plate.

Great curries - very tasty. The curries themselves didn't disappoint, but the service left a lot to be desired - very slow, and had to ask for basic things like a water refill, an additional round of soft drinks, and mint sauce (which we never actually got!). The place is akin to a transport cafe, which for me isn't a problem at all, but the pricing has definitely jumped far beyond that. I used to be a regular when I was younger (20-25 years ago) but it no longer feels like a cheap hidden gem. It felt expensive for what we had, and I'm sad to say... I was disappointed.

We have visited this restaurant for the first time. We have been to many other restaurants in Bradford and this was excellent. We had a lovely warm welcome. We could bring our own alcohol. The food was very fast from ordering but it was …

Great, iconic restaurant in Central Bradford. I went for lunch. It wasn't busy. The staff were friendly and attentive. The food was beautiful and inexpensive. Fab. I massively over ordered, having a mixed starter, then a chicken biryani and a chai. Could easily have done without the main because the starter (pictured) was huge.

Listings are re-checked in batches against their public profile, and anything reported as wrong is corrected at the source rather than patched on the page.
