Ho Mei
Quick info
About Ho Mei
Ho Mei is a Chinese takeaway at 217-219 High St in Bradford, and it works on a walk-in basis with no booking. The menu runs from salt and pepper chicken to crispy beef, with special fried rice as a rice option. Salt and pepper chips and salt and pepper wings sit alongside the chicken, so the same seasoning appears across more than one part of the menu. Curry sauce comes with chips, and chicken sweet and sour is listed with its sweet and sour sauce. Spring rolls are on the menu as well.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers are split, with the most repeated complaint being the quality of the meat and the seasoning. Chewy crispy beef comes up in two reviews, and others describe salt and pepper chicken and wings that were overcooked, bland, or served with only onion and no peppers. Fried rice divides opinion: one reviewer found the Singapore fried rice decent with a good meat to rice ratio, while others called the special fried rice a joke with about three peas and no meat, or clumped with cold spots. Positives include a special black bean dish full of mixed meat and vegetables, chips that were not soggy, and honey chilli ribs with plenty of meat. Other complaints include watery curry sauce, sweet and sour sauce like jam, and wet chip and spring roll bags on arrival. One reviewer reports food poisoning after eating here. Another describes a heated doorstep dispute over a refund that was offered only in half after a staff member arrived with a prepackaged box. One reviewer was annoyed that payment was by scanned barcode and cash only.

“Oh dear Oh dear … it’s so difficult to find decent Chinese food in Bradford so we keen to give this a first go … really awful fried rice cold spots clumped together and frankly terrible ! The honey chilli ribs were good with plenty of meat and a good portion, the chicken sweet and sour was at best average the batter was good the chicken very poor … so give it a go it may have been an off day.”

“Cannot believe I’ve just had to stand and have an argument with someone from Ho Mei staff on my own door step. Crispy beef was chewy, chicken curry hasn’t seen a chicken in its life and spring rolls were VILE so ofcourse requested refund. Was told food would have to be collected to receive said refund. Only for one of their staff to turn up at the door with a PRE PACKAGE BOX to show ingredients for spring rolls! Then tell us we can only have half a refund yet you’re here to take the food back? The absolute attitude of it all to end up in a shouting match with your customers over a meal at their own home is a disgrace all for the sake of a refund when you are in the wrong. Only to make it worse by showing us that your food is prepackaged I am in shock of what’s just happened.”

“Had a chinese a few times before which was very nice but tonight's was inedible. Very stale in the taste and the sweet and sour sauce was just like Jam on a plate. Must be a new chef but won t be buying again.”
