About The Mill Cullingworth (formerly Spoons Tearooms)

Sharing a site with an antiques shop next door, The Mill Cullingworth (formerly Spoons Tearooms) is a cafe and tea room on Greenside Ln in Bradford, with seating spread across more than one floor. Cakes are set out on display, and scones arrive warm with jam and clotted cream. Breakfast leans on pancake stacks, including a bacon and maple syrup version, while savoury lunch plates such as paninis come with coleslaw and salad alongside. Orders are placed at the counter, and reservations are recommended, with ground-floor tables available on request when booking by phone, which helps visitors with mobility needs alongside the step-free entrance. High chairs suit families with young children, and dogs are welcome. The kitchen and counter run daily, so coffee and cake is as easy to drop in for as a full breakfast.

Customer Review Summary

Cakes and scones draw the most attention: diners single out the Victoria sponge and carrot cake, a warm scone with jam and clotted cream, and a counter display running to parkin and cheese scones. Close behind are the pancake stacks, with the bacon and maple syrup version called tasty though one reviewer wanted bigger pancakes, while cheese on toast, a chocolate milkshake and filling breakfasts also get named, alongside treats for dogs. Warm words for friendly, obliging staff sit against a recurring service complaint. Several report long waits, one describing a lengthy delay on two paninis that ended with a lukewarm tuna melt whose cheese had not melted and no apology; others describe standing ignored at the counter, or having to ask for the coleslaw and salad meant to come with egg on toast, and one was put off by scrambled eggs made in the microwave. One reviewer who phoned ahead found a ground floor table ready, and another recounts the team nipping out to buy almond milk after running out.

“Went this afternoon for lunch before browsing antiques next door. Me and my partner decided on what to eat before we went in, ordered immediately at the counter at 13:50. Two paninis! 30 minutes later i had to ask about the wait as it wasn't busy but we hadn't heard or seen our food. I was politely told it'd be another 5 minutes after a waitress went to check. Ten minutes after that the food arrived. After a 40 minute wait, my tuna melt was lukewarm and had cheese that still wasn't melted at all, served next to two teaspoons of coleslaw and a "salad". Thankfully my partner enjoyed her bacon and brie panini. For 40 minutes wait and £20ish i wasn't happy, no little bowl of fries or even a coke or coffee, slice of cake anything like that not even a single word of apology from the staff nor explanation. Wouldn't recommend unless you have time to kill or like bacon and brie.”

“The Mill, Greenside Lane, Cullingworth We recently visited The Mill in Cullingworth for coffees and cakes. The girls serving were polite and friendly, and the service was great. There's on site parking, and it's handy being able to grab a coffee and then have a wander into the other businesses on site, like the antiques shop. The place itself is nicely decorated and clean, with onsite bathroom facilities available too. We tried the Victoria sponge and the carrot cake both were delicious and went down a treat with the coffee. They also had Parkin, cheese scones, fruit scones, and plenty of other mouth watering cakes on display, so we were definitely spoilt for choice. Would happily recommend and will be back when next in the area. This is our own experience with this business, and we know different clients will have different experiences but we always leave reviews based on the service we received when we ordered or visited.”

“Staff should smile more, but service was ok. Pancake stack nice. However scrambled eggs are made in the microwave - shocking. Honestly, change that. No one wants to eat scrambled eggs still in the shape of the jug from the microwave. Other than that all ok.”

“Called in today from onset felt very uncomfortable. Ordered just egg between 2 toast and he said I got coleslaw and salad with that .I'd eaten my egg on toast which was nothing special just standard. No coleslaw or salad came I had to ask for it .so I sat eating a tiny bit of coleslaw and abit of salad. this place is not cheap .all in all I will not be visiting the mill again .I felt I couldn't get out there quick enough”

“Called in for a coffee and cake. Felt like I was invisible. Stood at counter for one minute and was totally ignored. Went to find a menu for prices, then went to try again..Still ignored 🙁 Two guys looked more interested in something on the till than my custom. Won't be going again. Used to enjoy Spoons, but definitely not this lot.”
