Reviewers most often describe the function rooms, hired for a wake, a first birthday with a Winnie the Pooh theme and a sixtieth birthday party. Hosts say the staff helped organise everything and that nothing was too much trouble. They single out delicious scotch eggs and a buffet that disappeared almost immediately. Close behind is the service in the dining room, called attentive, helpful and welcoming, with servers who gave menu and drink recommendations and took allergies into account. Others praise the ales, including the Outland craft range, and a pie that was lovely, though one diner wanted more chips and gravy with it. The main complaint comes from one roast dinner visit. The kitchen ran out of pork and then beef, forcing two changes of order. The fifth meal had to be chased, the roast beef listed as served pink was like shoe leather, the Yorkshire puddings were dry, nothing was hot, and nobody checked on the table. One function host recalled that staff even got the Tanglefoot beer back on.

“Excellent meal on our way home tonight, Josh was our server and was very knowledgable and helpful with menu choices. He was really friendly and nothing was too much bother. Food would have got 5/5 if there were more chips and gravy with our pie, but what we did have was lovely!”

“I had my Mother's Wake at the function rooms. The venue was perfect, three rooms, with oak panelling, paintings, leather stuffed chairs etc. Kyla and her team were fantastic, she helped me organise it, and on the day nothing was too much trouble. She even got the Tanglefoot beer back on. Food was delicious, especially the scotch eggs,and plenty of it. Gave my Mother a great send off. She would have loved the food.”

“Was extremely impressed by the staff who took allergies into account. Being on a feeding tube, I was allowed to purchase smaller plates. This meant I was able to enjoy longer with friends. Credit to Josh, what was supposed to be a few drinks turned into a full day event. He was nothing but polite and couldn’t do more 5⭐️’s”

“We booked a table after reading the reviews. I have to say disappointed doesn't cover it. We arrived at 6pm and were shown to our table. We ordered drinks, waiter didn't need to write it all down, always a promising start, someone who knows what they are doing. The drinks arrived promptly and dinner was ordered. This is where it starts to go wrong. We ordered 1 chicken caesar burger, 1 nourish bowl, 1 roast beef, 1 roast pork and a childs roast pork. 5 minutes later our waiter came back to apologise and say they didn't have enough pork for 2. So we changed to another beef. 5 minutes later, they actually don't have any pork. We change to 3 roast beef. A couple of minutes later, a waitress let us know they don't have enough beef. By this point I guess our waiter didn't want to come back to the table. We didn't have a problem with any of that and in fact had been laughing about it. We had 4 meals brought to the table but had to chase up on the 5th. The roast beef says served pink, it was certainly not and was like shoe leather and unedible. The Yorkshire puddings were dry. Nothing was particularly hot. During the meal nobody checked if everything was OK or if more drinks were wanted. I have to say this was one of the worst meals I have eaten in years.”
