SEXY LOBSTER
Quick info
About SEXY LOBSTER
Sexy Lobster is a seafood restaurant in Bournemouth, set above the Neo bar on the seafront with sea views from the dining room. The menu pairs seafood plates with meat dishes, and lobster appears as half lobster with truffle fries. Lemon sole and oysters sit alongside it, with champagne for the oysters. The drinks list covers wine and cocktails, including a Negroni and a Kir Royale. A private dining room gives groups a space of their own. The restaurant is near the beach, and its menus still carry the Neo name next to Sexy Lobster.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers split sharply on this seafood spot above the NEO bar, with the lobster and fresh shellfish at the center of the praise. Diners describe delicious lobster, oysters so large they were the biggest one couple had tried, and a lemon sole enjoyed with a bottle of picpoul. Outdoor seating, a cooked-to-perfection white fish, and staff who surprised a birthday guest with a cheesecake round out the happier accounts.

“We came to celebrate our 16th Wedding Anniversary and enjoyed Oysters and Champagne. We were blown away by the size of the oysters! The biggest ones we've ever had! We're served by Christian, who was charming and very welcoming. We'll be back! Ra &Bee”

“We visited this restaurant on Saturday May 9th ‘26. I have given a 2star rating because of the exceptional service we received from Noa, who looked after us during the meal. Not sure where to start with this? The Sexy Lobster is the restaurant above a bar called Neo in a good location near the beach on Bournemouths seafront. The atmosphere in the bar (Neo) is ok. Quite loud but definitely not relaxing. There was no “atmosphere” as such. No real “vibe”. We ordered two cocktails my Negroni was very theatrical (in a very good way) but my wife’s Kir Royale was flat and we were then not charged for it after bringing it to the attention of a hostess. The starters we had were reasonably tasty but not as outstanding as the menu described. The mains were a severe disappointment. I ordered the 1/2 lobster. My wife ordered the ribeye steak. My lobster was very small…very small!! The truffle fries that came with it were ok but the sprinkle of black “stuff” on top was very far removed from anything resembling truffle! My wife’s steak was ordered rare, but was gristly and cooked to at least medium well done. The steak was tasteless and chewy and not great quality. Having read the reviews online I was really surprised that the food was so disappointing. I appreciate that people’s expectations of great food are different to others. I also appreciate that a restaurant in a prime location have to charge a premium for the food they deliver but unfortunately this fell way short of the mark due the quality of the ingredients used. The whole experience was very disappointing but our waitress, Noa, made it ever so slightly better.”

“My goodness! I really cannot remember the last time I had such a horrible dining experience. Sexy Lobster has opened with a marketing bang, accompanied by a web site that might as well be AI-generated, since the reality is far removed from the cleverly "tweaked" photographs. The interiors are tired, dated, awkward, and nothing has changed since it was NEO. In fact, the whole identity of the restaurant seems confused, with the menus referencing both NEO and Sexy Lobster. There is no semblance of a staff uniform, which adds to the lack of cohesion. Service was perfunctory, and one waiter verged on plain rude. The à la carte menu is small, which is fine as long as it is inspiring; Sexy Lobster's is not inspiring in any way. The presentation of the food was so bad, it was almost as if a child had plated it. Never before have I had a tuna steak served to me pre-cut! Why would you do this? It meant the fish was cold by the time it reached the table. It was also served in a puddle of purée. The chocolate mousse with hazelnut crumb and ice cream was literally dollops in a bowl. I had stopped taking photos at this stage, as everything was just so poor. Diners on the table next to us asked for condiments. These were served to them in those little glass jars that pubs and chain restaurants use. A decent restaurant would at least decant these and serve in small dishes. Watching a waitress trying to keep a candle alight on a small birthday offering for one of the tables was straight out of Fawlty Towers. The apparent pedigree of Sexy Lobster is diametrically opposed to the reality. If I were the Executive Chef, I'd be removing my name from the web site. The site shows beautifully presented dishes; the reality was the most embarrasing-looking dishes I have ever seen in all my many years of dining. Two main courses, one side, two desserts, a bottle of wine, a glass of wine, a bottle of water, and service charge came to a jawdropping £168.14! I have paid considerably less at good restaurants in London. I will add at this point that we got a promotional 20% discount - which we had to ask for, even though it was included in the booking details - but £134.51 was still an outrageous price (and still more than many London restaurants). No doubt people will go to Sexy Lobster for the location and because of the slick marketing, but I can't see much repeat business at these prices and for the standard of the food and the whole experience. I will not be returning to another Dorset dining disappointment that is Sexy Lobster.”

“We went for a day out on the bus (don’t ever do the bus but thought it would be fun) from Christchurch to Bournmouth. Decided to try the sexy lobster as it’s been on social media. The lemon sole was delicious and we thoroughly enjoyed it and the bottle of pi picpoul. There were only two other tables of two so not much atmosphere, waitress was pleasant and apologised that they don’t have any bread or sharing nibbles on offer. If you’re not having a starter it would be nice just to have something with a pre lunch drink.would we go back possibly not and only if they had the lemon sole. Also none of the signage other than the huge sign at the front has been changed still have Neo on drinks menu etc. so not a lot of NEW restaurant going on.”
