Quick info
About Koi Sakana
Koi Sakana is a seafood restaurant and oyster bar in Bournemouth, based at 1 The Triangle. The menu centres on oysters, with an aburi scallop dish among the cooked plates. For the summer, a pop-up at Tonic Terrace serves freshly shucked oysters and charcoal-grilled fish outdoors, weather permitting. Back at the restaurant, daily specials appear on the board alongside the regular dishes. The room is compact, and bar counter seating lets guests watch the chef and team work in front of them. Walk-ins are taken at that counter. The drinks list includes orange wine.

Customer Review Summary
Oysters are the most frequent draw, described as incredibly fresh, sweet and meaty, with one table ordering a second plate. Scallops come close behind, from aburi scallop to miso honey scallops, and the king prawns are called gigantic, one reviewer likening them to mini lobsters. Others single out the tuna burger, salmon tartar, anchovy bruschetta, crab Thermidor, sea bream, a chocolate ganache special and a cheeseboard. A few praise the orange wine. Several sat at the counter and enjoyed watching the chef and team work, and reviewers describe friendly, welcoming service, with a solo diner saying they felt comfortable. The one practical complaint is availability: a diner arriving at 7pm found most dishes already sold out, and another saw people turned away, so several suggest booking ahead or coming earlier. Daily specials are chalked on a board, and one reviewer notes the chef made sure glasses never went empty.

“What a fantastic find this was. Daniel and Charlotte were extremely welcoming and their service was wonderful, as was the young person working with them. The food was excellent, the oysters were so good, we had to have a second plate. We followed that up with two scallop dishes which could not be faltered and then the sea bream which was delicious. They even had orange wine, which we love. We highly recommend this family owned and run resteraunt and if we're ever back in the area, we will definitely go back. Thank you for looking after us. Cheers, Carl & Kim.”

“We’ve just had the most wonderful meal here! We were walk-ins and made to feel extremely welcome at the bar counter by Charlotte and Dan who are great hosts. We shared a lovely anchovy bruschetta and then delicious scallops and rich crab Thermidor. All superbly prepared with great care. We finished off with a cheeseboard of some very interesting and tasty cheeses. All in all an absolutely fantastic experience and we can’t wait to be back!”

“Such a great experience! The seafood was absolutely delicious!!! incredibly fresh, perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The scallops and prawns were amazing, and everything we ordered was spot on. The staff were also incredibly friendly, welcoming and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Amazing food, lovely atmosphere and genuinely great service. Definitely one of the highlights of our time in Bournemouth. We’ll absolutely be back! ❤️”

“Wow this is one of the best seafood restaurants we have gone to! The food is all so delicious. The aburi scallop was mouth watering. The oysters sweet and meaty and delicious. The salmon tartar perfectly balanced. The tiger prawns were literally like mini lobsters. The surprise standout was the tuna burger. We have never had anything like it but it was sooo yum. You just must try it yourself!!! Try to come earlier if you can because by the time we arrived at 7pm they had sold out of most dishes already. Also lovely friendly relaxed service from all of the staff! Best to make a reservation as the restaurant is compact but we easily made one the day before on Google.”

“We booked this for our wedding anniversary and it did not dissapoint. The food is out of this world, great oysters and we had all the daily specials, would highly reccommend it. The orange wine is brilliant and the chocolate special ganache was hands down the best desert i ever had. Service was incredible too, the team could not do enough for us and we can't wait to come back one day. Thanks again for making our special meal so memorable!”
