  “We booked our Christmas day dinner here as a group of 4 at £100 per head. We couldn't have asked for anything else! We all had such a happy time over 5 hours and 8 courses. The food was hot, home cooked, absolutely delicious and completely unfaultable. The service from the waiting staff was amazing from the moment we walked in to the moment we walked out. Very attentive and highly professional team running this place. Fantastic Chef. Goody bags full Christmas sweety delights to take home, Christmas crackers and 2 huge party poppers on the table to explode for some end of meal fun and crimbo celebration. If you've not visited here, we highly recommend you do if you like freshly prepared and really tasty home cooked English food. Thanks team Bates 🎉🍾🎉🍾🎉”

  “Me and my girlfriend went here for the first time yesterday, and we will definitely be coming back! I ordered the roasted lamb, and she got the pork filets. We both got soup of the day as our starter. Each dish was delicious, prices were reasonable, vibe of the restaurant was cosy, waitresses were very friendly…will definitely be coming back!”

  “I just had a delightful lunch at Bates with a dear friend. I was absolutely lovely. Food was delicious. Fantastic steak pie, fantastic starter. Our waitress was so friendly, attentive and charming. I intend to come back soon.”

  “We visited Bates Restaurant for the first time and it certainly didn’t disappoint! The food was absolutely delicious — the pork medallions were cooked to perfection, full of flavour and beautifully presented. I chose the spinach and ricotta cannelloni, which was rich, comforting, and just the right balance of indulgent without being too heavy. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming, and the service was attentive without being overbearing — exactly what you want for a relaxed dining experience. A fantastic first visit and we will definitely be back. Highly recommend!”

  “Bates restaurant serves good tasty food. It’s plain English food and the quality is very good. I found out about Bates through my parents. That being said the 4 times I have been there is have always had a excellent food experience and the service is very good too.”

  “Delicious food and friendly courteous staff led by proprietors Cheryl (front of house) and (never seen) chef John. Traditional British & European cuisine served in generous portions (don't be too proud to ask for a "doggy bag" and enjoy it again the next day).”

  “There is something very special about this restaurant. It’s run by a very dedicated husband and wife team. The husband is a truly amazing chef! On entering this immaculate dining room you are made to feel so welcome. The whole restaurant is well heated with no draughty areas, music is played through a very good sound system. The menu has a superb range of classic food, including a separate a la Carte menu. We chose the 2 course set dinner. There is also a 3 course set dinner. The steak was cooked to perfection and fantastic sauce, loved the sautéed potatoes with that paprika flavouring, swede and carrot mash and cabbage and peas all went down a treat! My dessert was a syrup sponge with custard which was steaming hot and scrumptious. So glad we have found this great place and looking forward to sampling more dishes.”

  “We were visiting from the United States and decided to go here for Valentine's Day dinner. The service was excellent, and we really enjoyed the cozy atmosphere. I had the halibut steak with prawn, asparagus, and butter sauce, and it was VERY good. This is a nice place to go for a delicious meal with great service.”
