About 1812 Lounge Bar & Restaurant

On Exeter Rd in Bournemouth, 1812 Lounge Bar & Restaurant is a cocktail bar that pairs a lounge with a restaurant for dining in. The all you can eat sushi sits alongside a drinks list run by a mixologist on staff, so a meal and cocktails can happen under one roof. A stage hosts live music, with live DJs at the weekend, and football plays on the screens. Crispy squid is among the snacks. Large semicircular booths seat groups of 4 to 6. Happy hour on cocktails runs daily in the early evening, and includes a cocktail-and-a-pint deal. A Sunday Roast is served every Sunday.

Customer Review Summary

Happy hour cocktails draw the most mentions, with reviewers calling it a bargain and praising the large semicircular booths for groups of four to six. Live music on the stage comes close behind, along with staff described as friendly and excellent, including a mixologist knowledgeable about the cocktails. Food gets lighter attention. The all you can eat sushi earns praise, while the crispy squid was called a bit average and one diner wanted more white wine and beer choices. The recurring complaint is the strength and measure of the drinks. One reviewer found the happy hour cocktails weak, and another objected to half measures, including a half full Negroni. Two reviewers describe a sharp decline under new ownership. A musician reports a band was taken off stage after two songs, with no soundcheck, and told it was not the vibe wanted. Another reviewer reports being charged for drinks never ordered, being refused a refund, and security failing to keep guests safe.

“A warning to musicians and live acts I played at 1812 regularly for nearly a decade, most recently booked directly with the venue. Tonight I arrived for a booked gig, having travelled an hour, only for our band to be kicked off stage after two songs with no prior briefing about musical expectations, no constructive feedback, and no soundcheck. The new owners's response was to tell us we were "crap" and "not the vibe they were looking for." When I calmly asked for an explanation and explained that we had played here for years with positive feedback, and that id made a 2 hour round trip to be there I received a dismissive one-word apology. The owner was rude and unprofessional. When our singer tried to explain to him that our set gets better as it goes on (as is common with many bands) he shrugged, said he wanted us off and pulled a curtain between them. The sound engineer on the night was also clearly unhappy under this new ownership. If you're a musician or act considering booking here, I'd strongly advise you to get very detailed expectations in writing before agreeing to perform. Under the current ownership, this is not the venue it once was. A real pity.”

“The mixologist, Richard, was very friendly and very knowledgable of all the cocktails and foods. All the staff are excellent as are the food and drinks. Happy hour is a bargain 👍”

“Nice staff. Nice location and atmosphere. However, happy hour cocktails should not be half measured cocktails and half glass full Neg ronis! Happy hour cocktails should be same full measures please.”

“4 of us went for drinks during the Happy Hour special (cocktail and a pint for 10 quid) and enjoyed a wonderfully pub setting with large semicircular booths. Bar staff were excellent but the cocktails were weak (perhaps because of Happy Hour and we weren't regulars). Will definitely return on our next to Bournemouth. Great for groups of 4-6 in the booths.”

“Always good to visit 1812, good live music and good people all around, may a bit more expensive but there's a reason for it. Definitely one of best places in Bournemouth for your night out”
