About Chilli Kitchen
Chilli Kitchen is a Chinese restaurant in Birmingham, cooking Sichuan food at 148 Bromsgrove St, with chilli at the centre of many dishes. The main dish is charcoal grilled fish, cooked on the bone and served in chillies, Chinese vegetables and Sichuan oil, in a large portion. Customer Review Summary
The spicy Sichuan grilled fish draws the most praise, described as a big portion cooked on the bone and swimming in chillies, with seasoning one reviewer says tastes the same as in China. Close behind are a lamb dish with spring onions, edible tree fungus and yam, and cabbage with cellophane noodles on an iron plate. One longtime regular describes nice Sichuan cooking across many visits, and portions are called generous. Service divides reviewers sharply. One finds the waitress efficient but without warmth, while another says dishes never took long to arrive. Others report a slow kitchen when busy, with one table saying the rice went cold while they waited and the last dish came long after they sat down. One reviewer says a question about a dish not cooked properly was ignored. Two separate reviewers say a question about vegan options was met with confusion and an answer about bank cards and where they came from, and both left without eating.

“Absolutely disappointed. We’ve been sat down for over an hour and they’ve given us rice which has gone cold over the waiting period. Service is awful with the waiter being impatient, with demands the last dish has been cooked two hours after our arrival. And forced upon us when bill is called. Never gonna come again. This has happened more than three times in a row whenever the restaurant is busy… definitely think about what is waiting before you come”

“I've come here before. I couldn't wait to bring my wife here. After we were sat down I asked the waitress if she could point out the vegan options. She told me she can only accept cash or "UK bank cards". We've had to leave since apparently MasterCard and Visa are unknown in this specific restaurant. I loved their shredded potatoes last year. Paid with my non UK card. I'll have to find another great place for it (which I did. Across them there's a food hall with far better options and great customer service) It was”

“Couldn't get anything in this restaurant. My husband asked about vegan options, even explaining what vegan meant when the waitress seemed confused. He got a completely different answer about credit cards and what country we came from. We had to leave because of asking what felt like a difficult question for them to answer. If any of my friends come to Birmingham, I will not recommend this place.”
