About Dave's Hot Chicken

Dave's Hot Chicken is a chicken restaurant in Birmingham, on New St, built around Nashville hot chicken tenders and sliders. The concept began in 2017 as a parking-lot pop-up in East Hollywood, started by four childhood friends, and the menu centres on those two items. Tenders and sliders come with fries and are ordered at hot, medium or extra hot spice levels. Combo meals such as the "Dave's #3" pair an extra hot tender and a hot slider with fries, and the drink is separate. Fries come seasoned or crinkle cut, and mac and cheese is on the menu. Sauces and honey are unlimited, with honey also offered as a side for the tender. Orders go through two machines, so a queue forms when it is busy. Card payments are accepted.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the chicken tender, describing it as juicy and crispy, with the hot seasoning and extra hot level praised for actually delivering heat. Close behind are the slider, especially with cheese sauce, and the fries, though one found them oily and too crispy while another liked the crinkle cut ones with thick gherkins. The mac and cheese and a Lucky Charms milkshake also earn mentions, and several like the unlimited sauces and the honey served with the tender. Price draws mixed reactions: some call it fair for the large portions, others find it expensive for fast food, and one says the drinks, including canned still water, are a waste of money. Queues are a recurring snag, with only two order machines, and one diner asked why a drink isn't included in the combo meal. Toilet condition splits reviews, with some calling them clean and others reporting a broken seat and a mess on the floor. One diner's seat at the back was uncomfortable and the table wobbly.

“Delicious but pricey. Worth the price, excluding the drinks. Canned still water is quite disgusting and the drinks are not great and definitely a waste of money. Other than that the food is great, the sauces and flavours of all are great too😃. Vibe of the place is very nice too.”

“My nephew wanted to come back here. I gave it a try have to say the place itself is spacious vibrant and clean. Lucky it was not but they only have 2 order machines so can imagine it getting busy. The food was different and tasty I enjoyed it. The honey was a unique touch which just worked. The toilets were clean and overall good experience. They do take card as well.”

“First time visiting Dave's Hot Chicken and I was impressed. The food was fresh, hot, and full of flavour. The chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside. It reminded me of a mix between Popeyes and Wingstop, with plenty of spice and great portion sizes. The staff were friendly, the restaurant was clean, and the service was quick. I'll definitely be coming back to try more from the menu in the future. A great addition to Birmingham for anyone who enjoys fried chicken and spicy food. 🐔🔥🍟😋 #DavesHotChicken #Birmingham #FoodReview #ChickenLovers #HiddenGems”

“I had the Dave’s #3 combo meal consisting of an extra hot tender, hot slider and fries with a drink (why don’t they include the drink in the meal?) it was delicious and quite filling overall adding honey to the tender gave it contrasting flavour and made it fun (more fast food places should have honey as a side) the service was quick the seat at the back was a bit uncomfortable for my liking and the table was wobbly the decor could be nicer recommended”

“I think the price is fair due to large portion although quite expensive for a fast food. Definitely not a normal fast food portion. Finally found a hot friend chicken that is actually hot. Extra hot is the perfect spice in my opinion. I love the mac and cheese too. Tastes nostalgic and well seasoned. Unlimited sauces and honey which is amazing. Luckily it was not at all crowded eventhough its a friday night, and the toilet is clean.”

Highlights

“TO LIVE AND FRY IN L.A. In 2017, four childhood friends came up with a simple concept — take Nashville Hot Chicken and make it better than anyone else in America. With only a couple thousand dollars to their name, they boot-strapped a pop-up concept in a parking lot in East Hollywood serving a simple menu of tenders, sliders, fries, and kale slaw — they created a viral cult following with lines consistently over an hour long.”
