About The Double Red Duke, Bicester Village
The Double Red Duke sits on Pingle Drive in Bicester as a pub and restaurant serving breakfast and lunch through the day. The kitchen works from a menu that turns up a chicken burger singled out at lunch and sourdough served alongside the eggs at breakfast, with soda and lime offered on the side as a small touch. Diners eat indoors or out, with a large outdoor seating area that runs alongside the main room and dogs welcome throughout. Tables are taken on a walk-in basis, and toothpicks appear at the table once the meal is finished.

“To say Layla was “amazing” is putting it lightly, she was radiating positive energy and her attention to detail was flawless, quite literally the only person I have come across to offer our table tooth picks after our meal. This place is truly bless to have her representing them!!! Keep up the fantastic work! We’ll be returning in the future for sure!”

“A beautifully designed and decorated place that genuinely impressed us from the moment we walked in. The colours, furniture and overall atmosphere are stunning, and we were really looking forward to a lovely breakfast with friends. Unfortunately, the experience did not live up to the beautiful surroundings. Two of us ordered poached eggs and avocado on toast. When the food arrived, we immediately realised that everything was extremely cold. The avocado was clearly fridge-cold and the poached eggs were cold too, which made the toast cold and unpleasant to eat. Of course, avocado may be stored in the fridge, but surely it should be brought closer to room temperature before being served, rather than placed straight from the fridge onto a breakfast dish. We politely raised this with the young member of staff, who was lovely and took our plates back to the kitchen. To our complete surprise, she returned with the exact same plates and explained that the chef said the avocado was kept in the fridge and that this was apparently normal. With respect, we were not questioning where avocado is stored, we were simply saying that our breakfast, including the poached eggs, was too cold to eat. I have eaten breakfast in countless places, from local cafés and pubs to hotels and restaurants in Oxford and abroad, and I have never experienced a complaint being handled in this way. Rather than addressing the problem, we felt as though we were being given an explanation for why we should accept it. I asked for the meals to be cancelled and said we were happy to continue with our coffee rather than receive further explanations. The staff member later kindly offered us an alternative, and we ordered simple poached eggs on toast instead. I genuinely felt sorry for her, as she was caught in the middle of an uncomfortable situation. One of our friends was visiting from abroad, which made the whole experience even more embarrassing. We had hoped for a relaxed gathering and a quality breakfast, but instead left feeling disappointed and speechless. Such a shame, because the venue itself is beautiful and has so much potential. Sadly, beautiful décor cannot compensate for poor food and an unnecessarily dismissive response to a genuine customer concern. A beautiful place to look at, but unfortunately not an experience worth paying for.”

“4 of us went out to lunch, only received half the order, and when it was pointed out to the team there wasn’t much of an apology, they seemed to think it was our fault that they got the order wrong, it took that long for the rest of the meal to come that we cancelled it and leave”
