Quick info
About River Garden Restaurant
River Garden Restaurant is a family-run Chinese restaurant at 134 Bridge St in Belper. Its all-you-can-eat menu is ordered at the table, and the chef cooks each dish fresh to order rather than serving it from a buffet warmer. A waitress brings the food out to the table. Starters include ribs, wings and prawn toast with satay sauce. Gluten-free guests get a menu with the off-limits items penned out in black marker, and the team adjusts meals for coeliac diners and ensures there is no cross contamination. The restaurant opens Wednesday to Sunday and is closed on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Customer Review Summary
Several reviewers centre on the all you can eat menu, where diners order from the menu and the chef cooks each dish fresh rather than serving from a warmer. Ribs described as tender and crispy on the outside, meaty wings, and thick prawn toast with satay sauce lead the praise, while a takeaway diner names the chow mein, shredded chicken in garlic and chilli, and banana fritters. Staff are called friendly and accommodating, and one parent says the gluten free menus and care over cross contamination made it safe for a coeliac daughter. Two reviewers report poor visits. One describes cold dumplings, vegetarian spring rolls with nothing inside, ribs pink in the middle, and a rude waitress. A takeaway customer found the curries far too hot, the lemon chicken tough and the duck fatty, with a phone complaint bringing no outcome. Another takeaway diner praises the person who phoned back when the food left for delivery.

“We have had many enjoyable meals from you in the past, but on Saturday evening it was very disappointing take away for 8 people. The 3 curries, chicken curry, thai green and thai red curries, dispite having no chilli signs against them, were very hot, in fact way too hot to be enjoyable. The lemon chicken was tough and difficult to cut or chew. The duck was very fatty and not enjoyable. A very disappointing meal all together. We did ring to report our concerns, without any outcome.”

“We had the all you can eat menu Food was lovely!! We had various different starters, all were on point. Ribs were tender soft and crispy on the outside, wings were meaty, prawn toast was thick, satay sauce was perfect! The mains were also lovely, tender beef, not too greasy or oil and really fresh veg All the staff were nice, you can tell they really care about good service!! We’ll be back again”

“Ordinarily a great restaurant, but for my Coeliac suffering daughter it is a godsend. GF menus have anything you cannot have black marker penned out and when you mention GF/ Coeliac they adjust your meal and ensure no cross contamination to make it safe. 👍👍👌”
