About Lotus Lounge

On Central Rd in Alfreton, Lotus Lounge is a Chinese restaurant that runs an all-you-can-eat buffet alongside an à la carte menu. The buffet works differently from a self-serve counter. Dishes are ordered to the table in rounds, with a limit on how many dishes each round, and the duck in pancake rolls can be ordered once per party. That limit applies on the buffet too. Among the dishes ordered are salt and pepper ribs and salt pepper chicken, and hot and sour soup is one of three soups on the menu. Dessert includes banana fritters, with pineapple and apple fritters as the other options. The dining room is decorated in red and cream, and each table has a turntable in the centre for passing shared plates. Pay & Display parking is a short walk away, and a few spaces sit directly outside.

Customer Review Summary

The all-you-can-eat menu is what most reviewers come for, describing hot, plentiful, freshly cooked dishes and staff they call lovely. Banana, pineapple and apple fritters earn repeated mentions for dessert, while takeaway orders of salt and pepper chicken, crispy shredded chilli beef, sambal prawns and mushroom soup are called delicious. Several describe the place as busy, clean and good value, and one advises booking in advance. The criticism is sharper but rarer. One family found the dining room cold enough to keep coats on, the table crowded and the buffet thinner than other local ones, citing greasy rice, gristly beef in black bean, very sweet char siu pork and shop-bought vanilla ice cream. One reviewer reports a partner fell ill after the salt and pepper ribs and also calls staff rude. Another mentions the reception phone ringing constantly near their table. Even happy diners note the duck can only be ordered once.
