The shop has won awards, including Best Fish & Chip Shop in Belfast at the Northern Ireland Chip Shop Awards. Fish is cooked fresh to order, and the menu also covers loaded chips and taco chips, with extra dips on the side. A Christmas chip with sauce appears seasonally. Customer Review Summary

Fish is what reviewers praise most, described as large, cooked fresh to order and the best some have ever had, with generous portions that left one diner stuffed after a taco chip and another raving about the Rasing canes platter. The catering van earns repeated approval at a boxing event, a staff lunch and other events, where servers were efficient, friendly and fed big groups quickly. Complaints are more varied. One regular found the fish dry and smaller than usual, with a missing extra dip, a sweet curry instead of a normal one and no cheese on a loaded chip. Another says the lone counter worker is rude and throws money and orders at customers, including young people. One couple reports that the business cancelled their wedding catering by email weeks before the date, citing a double booking, after taking a deposit. Another received a Christmas chip with sauce that arrived nearly dry, and the replacement never came, though a manager arranged a refund the next morning.

“I’d give no stars if I could. We booked Brown’s to cater our wedding with seven months’ notice and paid a substantial deposit to secure the booking. Despite this, they cancelled by email just 11 weeks before our wedding day. What made this even worse was that they prioritised a commercial client event over our wedding booking - with the excuse of double booking themselves. We were left scrambling to find an alternative caterer at short notice, despite having confirmed our full wedding parties order just 2 weeks before they cancelled on us. They had every chance to catch a double booking if that really was the case! If you have an important event coming up, I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere. A deposit should provide some security that your booking will be honoured, but unfortunately that wasn’t our experience.”

“I don't like to write reviews but today was the last straw,. Been coming yo brown's for awhile and the food is nice, I can't complain about the food if im honest. It is one counter staff only, but I'll not return because of her, she is so rude and short, throwing. money and orders at people like she is better than them and doesn't care. This has happened at least once everytime ive been in, to me or others, even youngsters, so after today, ill not return, really disappointed because we like do actually like the food 🥲”

“Went to the chippy van the other day and had an amazing meal! My servers were very efficient and got my food to me very quickly! Very cheery people. Food was delicious, will be back!!”

“Not the usual standard and am a returning customer. Paid for extra dips and didn’t get one. Got a sweet curry (yuck) instead of a normal. Fish was quite dry which was surprising for Browns, as it’s usually excellent and large (which it wasn’t). Also forgot cheese on a loaded chip & my partner said it wasn’t as nice without. Paid quite a bit for this order which included other items. Disappointed this week - was looking forward to a chippy and it didn’t “deliver” sort of speak.”

“Van was organised for staff lunch. Food was great, portion size was generous. They served a big staff very efficiently. Both women who served me were personable and very genuinely friendly. Now, I'm back to work in a food coma.”
