Customer Review Summary

Birthday celebrations come up most, with staff arranging a cake and flowers ahead of arrival, bringing out a sparkler candle with dessert, and in one case stopping the music to play Happy Birthday. Food draws steady praise, led by the steak sandwich at lunch, plus salmon with chow mein-style noodles, pork chop, pate, fish and chips and toffee cake. Reviewers call the cocktails great and the staff friendly. Complaints are specific. One diner reports duck on soy-soaked noodles too salty to eat, burrata served without its bread, and a dessert with an undisclosed coconut base, with the waiter seeming unconcerned. Another found the scallops tasted previously frozen, one called service a bit busy, and one found the décor dated, citing table clips and toilets. One reviewer suggests booking in advance, while a pair walked in for lunch and were seated.

“Disappointing dinner here. The setting is lovely but the service wasn't good. The burrata starter was very good but was supposed to come with bread. By the time we were able to get the attention of a waiter we were nearly finished. The lamb chop my husband had was good. My duck was tasty but it came on a bed of noodles covered in soy sauce and was just too salty to eat any of. I told the waiter and he said he'd pass on the feedback but didn't seem too concerned that I'd only had half a dinner. For dessert we asked about the 'chocolate truffle, raspberry ruffle' and were told it was a cake. When it arrived the cake element was a coconut base. My husband strongly dislikes coconut. Just as well he wasn't allergic as there had been no mention of it. Again we brought this to the attention of the waiter who asked if we wanted a different dessert. We were annoyed at this stage with the laid back attitude especially considering the waiter was already aware of the salty noodles and no bread with the starter. We left disappointed with the whole experience.”

“I had a fantastic experience at Deanes at Queens when my partner treated me to lunch for my birthday. I chose the salmon with cabbage and chow mein-style noodles, while my partner had the steak sandwich. Both dishes were absolutely delicious, beautifully presented, and full of flavour. The quality of the food was excellent throughout. The service was equally impressive. Every member of staff we encountered was polite, friendly, and attentive without being intrusive, which made the whole experience feel relaxed and enjoyable. To finish, we shared a slice of toffee cake with ice cream, which was the perfect end to a great meal. Then came a completely unexpected surprise. The restaurant stopped the background music and played Happy Birthday while bringing out our dessert with a sparkling candle. Neither I nor my partner had any idea it was coming, and it was such a thoughtful touch that made the occasion feel really special. From the food and service to the atmosphere and personal touches, the whole experience was outstanding. I would highly recommend Deanes at Queens to anyone looking for a memorable meal, and I'll definitely be returning in the future.”

“Friend and I popped in here without a reservation for a lunch and they were able to accommodate us. Both had steak sandwiches for lunch along with dessert, drinks and coffee. Staff were great and food was delicious, situated in a cosy place with a lovely view will definitely go again.”

“The atmosphere and location is good. Even it is fully seated, the spacing between table is good so won’t get noisy. A bit off is the seafood, which the scallops are not fresh and taste like frozen before, however the special steak is cooked well. The dessert is perfect. The service is ok but a bit busy.”

“We came here for a friend’s birthday and the staff were so lovely and involved in taking care of the cake, flowers and gifts for the birthday girl before we arrived and arranged it so beautifully. The service was excellent, all members of staff we interacted with were cool, calm and collected, the atmosphere was easy going and the food and cocktails were gorgeous. Personally it was my first time here and I can’t wait for the next time I return, thank you guys :)”
