About The Potting Shed cafe/restaurant
The Potting Shed cafe/restaurant is a restaurant on Pot House Hamlet in Barnsley, set in a large converted farmyard barn with a garden centre on site. Chefs prepare the food fresh, with gravy served alongside meals, and the ice cream is made on the premises. The ice-cream stand carries flavours that include carrot cake, and scones and milkshakes are on the menu too. The cafe and restaurant spreads across several separate rooms. Dogs are welcome and have a menu of their own, so visitors can bring a pet along for the meal. A petting zoo with goats shares the site with pet grooming and a clothing shop. A free car park serves the barn and garden centre.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise large, nicely presented portions, with the gravy singled out by two reviewers, one of whom notes the waitresses brought extra for a nannan. Close behind are the friendly staff, who remembered returning guests and cooed over a young child. Desserts get their own mentions: carrot cake ice-cream, scones described as soft, warm and fluffy, and cakes. Reviewers also name tasty falafels and thai haddock goujons. Several mention the converted barn interior, the relaxed atmosphere and the garden by the river. The one detailed complaint comes from a birthday table of eight, who report cold chips, mash and pie, and a steak kebab with burnt pieces when medium rare was requested. They describe a rude waitress who then avoided the table, so no pudding was ordered, and a dispute at the bar over taking a deposit off a split bill.

“Very disappointed with my experience. Booked for a birthday celebration and they didn’t acknowledge the birthday or sing to us. The food was cold and the steak kebab had 3 scabby pieces of burnt steak when asked for medium rare. All chips were cold and the mash with the pie. Blonde waitress extremely rude when told about the temperature of food, she then avoided our table for 30 minutes so we couldn’t order a pudding and we had to go to the bar to ask for a bill, twice. We were told the card machine couldn’t be brought over and then it was. We were then told our £25 deposit could not be taken off the bill on the till because it doesn’t work. We were then told our deposit could not be taken off the bill because we split the bill (we were a table of 8). The same blonde girl was extremely rude at the bar and confrontational over the bill - saying things like ‘I told you if you split the bill you can’t have your deposit’ which she didn’t say once. Shocked at the quality of service and overall experience.”

“I really like it here. There's always a nice busy buzzy atmosphere and the staff are all friendly and zipping about everywhere. Their ice-cream stand has a good mix of classic and original flavours - the carrot cake ice-cream was lush. The food is always to a high standard and presented nicely. Plus I think it is good value. I've been before and I will definitely be back.”
