Customer Review Summary
Sunday lunch and roasts draw the most praise, from a birthday Sunday lunch with no long waits to a roast beef with creamy mash and horseradish sauce in large portions. One gluten free diner found the Sunday dinner delicious. Breakfast comes close behind, including a fancy breakfast with a fried egg swapped in for scrambled, and a coffee and breakfast stop popular with cyclists on the Trans Pennine Trail. Others single out the halloumi salad, duck gyozas on a theme night and crispy onion rings. Pasta divides opinion. One reviewer had a chicken pasta cooked in tomato sauce to suit food intolerances, and a partner called the king prawn pasta delicious. A first time visitor found the prawn pasta without flavour, the steak blue when medium rare was requested, the mushrooms old and dry, and the cheese sauce more of a cream sauce that arrived after a wait. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and one reviewer suggests booking in advance. A dog owner closes on the little treat that comes with a hot drink.

“We stopped here for lunch on our walk from Elsecar. We both ordered the roast beef with creamy mash and vegetables along with a pint of lager and a white wine. The staff were very friendly and efficient. Both meals were beautiful, with large portions and the addition of horseradish sauce was perfect. A thoroughly enjoyable meal in a lovely pub. Definitely recommended.”

“We came for a birthday Sunday Lunch here, and oh my goodness, it was absolutely stunning. Everything was so delicious, and no long waits! The staff were so accommodating, and one even went above and beyond, and entertained our 1 year old, while we had our Sunday Lunch in peace 🤣 Thank you for everything! Really enjoyed it! Definitely recommend booking in advance too, and it's very popular!”

“I go here regular with my dog for a drink stop and always find myself ordering some food because it's just too nice to not! There salads are by far the best salads iv had! Hallumi salad to be precise! So much flavour and decent size! Staff are so friendly, always welcoming, chatty. Lovely place to sit in sunshine and lovely and cosy in colder days. The little treat you get with a hot drink is always a lovely suprise. Dog friendly even for my little reactive pooch.”

“A great place to come for a solid breakfast. Lovely coffee and sumptuous breakfast. A popular place for cyclists as well to stop for food and drink and this is on the the Trans Pennine Trail. Very friendly staff. Recommended.”

“This is our go-to place when we want to eat out. The restaurant menu is reasonably priced, varied, includes daily specials and regular ‘theme’ nights (the duck gyozas on one such occasion were to-die-for). Staff are welcoming and always check to make sure you’re happy with your meal. This week I had the chicken pasta which was delicious and they obligingly cooked it in a tomato sauce (instead of the advertised cream sauce) due to my food intolerances. My partner had the king prawn pasta that she described as tasty and delicious. Can’t recommend this place enough.”
