About Tandoori Hut

On Wakefield Rd in Barnsley, Tandoori Hut is an Indian restaurant spread over two floors, with a modern interior and crystal chandeliers. The kitchen cooks both classic and modern Indian dishes, and the menu runs from starters and mains to side dishes and a dessert list. The Family Naan is a giant bread that arrives hanging on a large metal stand. Poppadoms come with a pickle tray. Tandoori dishes make up part of the range, including the Tandoori Mix Sizzler, and the seekh kebab and seafood bhuna sit alongside them. Diners can wait in the bar area and look over the menu there before sitting down to eat. Lal Toofan is served on draught.

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers most often single out the oversized naan, with one describing a Family Naan served hanging on a metal stand and others calling the breads humongous and huge, so much so that one suggests ordering just one between two. Close behind are the tandoori dishes, including a Tandoori Mix Sizzler with charred, tender meats. Diners also name onion bhajis, a cheesy seekh kebab, a seafood bhuna and a pickle tray with poppadoms. Staff are repeatedly described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, and several groups came for birthday meals where everyone chose a different starter. Complaints are fewer but specific. One reviewer found the large room very loud, with no way to talk quietly, and said two of four disabled parking spaces were blocked by sideways-parked cars and a third by a cone. Another noted a man clearing plates on several occasions while some of the table were still eating. Reviewers also mention Lal Toofan on draught and the crystal chandeliers.

“Tried for the first time and have to say it won't be our last. The food was amonst the best Indian food I have eaten. Every dish we had between the 5 of us was cooked superbly and was delicious. I was particularly impressed with the pickle tray with the poppadoms. Plenty of choice and all very nice. We all had a different starter and we all had food envy when looking at what others in the group had. Mains and side dishes, too, were all presented beautifully and tasted wonderful. We were offered the dessert menu and only 2 of us planned on a dessert but after seeing the menu we all chose something and again they were all really good. The staff were friendly and attentive. Always on hand and checking we were OK for drinks etc. All in all a great first experience and won't be long before we return”

“Visited Tandoori Hut in Barnsley recently for a group celebration and was thoroughly impressed. The Food The food is the definite highlight here. The Tandoori Mix Sizzler was served piping hot with perfectly charred, tender meats. However, the real "wow" factor was the Family Naan—served hanging on a large metal stand, it’s not only a great centerpiece for the table but tasted incredibly fresh. The Onion Bhajis were also a hit: crispy on the outside and well-spiced. Drinks & Atmosphere They serve Lal Toofan on draught, which is the perfect pairing for authentic Indian spices. The restaurant interior is modern and stylish, featuring some very impressive tiered crystal chandeliers that give the space a premium feel. Summary Excellent spot in Barnsley for anyone looking for high-quality Indian cuisine and a great atmosphere for groups. The presentation of the food is top-notch. Highly recommended! Pros: * Unique presentation (Hanging Naan) Great selection of tandoori dishes Clean and upscale interior”

“Let me get the good out of the way first. The food and service are wonderful. I had the cheesy seekh kebab and the seafood bhuna l, along with a pilau rice. All were very tasty and cooked to perfection. The staff are very attentive, and check in regularly to see if you need anything. Now the bad. The restaurant is quite big and, as a result, it gets VERY loud. Some of you might like this, but I like a nice quiet meal where you can talk quietly with your party and no need to shout to be heard. The real annoying thing is the parking. There are 4 disabled parking spots out front. Two were blocked by 2 (i assume staff) cars parked sideways in front of them. A third blocked with a cone. So only one space was actually accessible. That's really poor. Thankfully the one spot was free when I visited, but I felt rotten for any other disabled visitors who may have arrived after me.”
