About Beastie Brews

Beastie Brews is a coffee shop in Ayr, on Bath Pl right at the beach front. A mural shows Robert Burns reimagined as a coffee-loving mouse, and the odd hidden "Beastie" mouse turns up around the cafe, which gives the place a local, playful identity. The interior follows a Scandinavian style with lots of natural light and a mix of seating styles. On the coffee side, pour over is the focus, with new single origin options arriving frequently. Homemade syrups go into the iced lattes, including a miso maple version, and a flat white and decaf are also available. A secret menu of experimental co-ferments runs alongside the main list. Cakes and pastries, including croissants, round out the counter. The shop is open daily, daytime only.

“We visited Beastie Brews both mornings on our two-day trip to Ayr - no complaints!! We tried the iced latte with miso maple syrup, one with white choc syrup, iced latte with custard cold foam and the flat white. All the coffee was delicious, perfect balance of strong and sweet and the baristas kindly accommodated our requests for less syrup. The service is great and the staff are super friendly and welcoming. We really enjoyed our visit both times and will be back whenever I’m next here! (My only very minor note would be to have smaller straws for the iced coffee). Love the stickers too!”

“Lars Wonder Dog and I love Beastie Brews. Great coffee, including frequent new single origin options and lovely cakes. Always greeted with a smile. The cafe is illuminated with natural light and is a great place to read, edit my photos or just indulge my love of great coffee (and cake 🤫).”

“Beastie Brews is not just a coffee shop, it’s a community. It has an amazing vibe, super friendly staff and great selection of quality coffee options for every taste, as well as fresh pastries and cakes. Rory is clearly passionate about coffee and you feel that from the moment you walk into the shop. The wide variety of options, including an incredible pour over, and homemade syrups, sets this place apart from other coffee shops. It can be busy at times but there’s good reason for that. There’s always a nice friendly and welcoming atmosphere and a good mixture of regulars and new faces, so hanging about while you wait for your coffee is a joy in itself! The location is also just perfect, right at the beach with plenty of parking. It has nice outdoor seating as well as different seating styles inside and is very dog friendly! Best coffee shop in Ayrshire!”

“Best coffee I've found in Ayr, and one of the best I've had in Scotland. Paired with chill and friendly staff and always an interesting sweet treat, my go to place in this area.”

“The best Scottish coffee shop South of Glasgow. A lot of third wave coffee shops struggle to focus on whether they invest in an extensive coffee menu or one that your normal coffee enjoyer can navigate and BB have managed to streamline their menu while still satisfying the pourover snobs. Their staff are courteous, kind, and knowledgeable around both drink and food offerings along with being able to cater to decaf and gluten dodging (coeliac) wives. If you're a coffee snob, ask for the secret menu. You'll feel special and they have some experimental co-ferments usually hiding in the back.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers come for the coffee itself, above all the pour over, along with homemade syrups and frequent new single origin options. One reviewer will happily wait while the barista takes time over the pour. Drinks named include an iced latte with miso maple syrup and another with custard cold foam, and baristas accommodated requests for less syrup. Close behind are the cakes and pastries, including a raspberry pastry, a croissant and a crusty, huge focaccia sandwich. The light, open Scandinavian-style room, a mural of a coffee-loving mouse and friendly staff come up repeatedly, as does a welcome for dogs and for families with babies. One reviewer suggests coffee snobs ask for the secret menu, where experimental co-ferments are said to be kept. Complaints are slight: the cafe can be busy at times, and one reviewer would like smaller straws for the iced coffee. Another describes staff offering their husband a cookie to celebrate his birthday.
