Quick info
About Bistro Twelve Twenty
Bistro Twelve Twenty is a restaurant, wine bar and cocktail bar in Old Amersham, serving small plates alongside a fuller menu. The kitchen makes its sourdough in house and serves it with sesame and local honey butter. Braised beef tagliolini with basil and caramelised crumb sits on the main menu, and roasted carrots with pecans make a plate for sharing. Dishes from the main menu can also be ordered as small plates, so a table can split several between them. A vegetarian menu is available. The wine list describes each bottle, and it includes an orange wine and a South African red.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the creative small plates, with one group of five sharing their way through the whole main menu and noting that every dish was different, with homemade sauces. The braised beef tagliolini with basil and caramelised crumb is called genuinely spectacular. Close behind come the homemade sourdough with sesame and local honey butter, the roasted carrots with pecans, and chips one reviewer says are the best they have had. The vegetarian menu is described as tasty, and the wine earns separate praise, with the orange wine and a South African red singled out. Service is called friendly, efficient and welcoming, and several describe the room as relaxed and cosy. The main reservation concerns the setting. One reviewer felt the atmosphere needed something extra, such as brighter artwork, more character and comfier chairs, and another notes the menu is not huge. One lunch stands out, when a power cut hit the whole high street soon after orders were placed and the chef adapted the menu to what could be cooked without power, accommodating dietary requirements.

“We had such a lovely afternoon here! The food and service were both absolutely OUTSTANDING! The restaurant has a warm feel, but I thought the atmosphere could do with a little something extra. It’s hard to put my finger on it, but perhaps some brighter artwork, a little more character and comfier chairs would really bring the space to life. It’s a real gem of a restaurant, and we’ll definitely be back!”

“★★★★★ Outstanding food and exceptional service – even in adversity! We love Bistro Twenty Twelve, and today's lunch reminded us why! We arrived at 12:30 and placed our order, only for the power to go off at 12:45 for the whole of old Amersham high street. By 12:55 it was clear that it wasn't coming back any time soon! What followed was a masterclass in how to handle adversity. The staff were absolutely exemplary – calm, cheerful, resourceful and determined to make sure everyone still had a wonderful experience. Chef Mark quickly adapted the menu to what could be prepared without power, carefully accommodated everyone's dietary requirements, and somehow still produced absolutely amazing food! It's easy to deliver great hospitality when everything goes to plan. The real test is how you respond when things go wrong, and today the whole team were a class above. Fantastic food, wonderful people and a genuinely special place. We will definitely be back. Highly recommended!”

“Food was absolutely fantastic. Went as a group of 5, we done the small plates sharing option, tried every dish on the main menu. Every dish was done differently with homemade sauces. I love trying new restaurants and different foods but this was a completely a different experience. Some of the nicest food I have tried. We had a couple of fussy eaters who usually dont deviate of the norm but they were gobsmacked how nice the different dishes were. Everything was perfect from a dining experience, atmosphere was lovely & relaxed, service was excellent. Couldn't recommend enough and cant wait to go back.”

“A meal here is a joy! Sadly we don't live locally but it's a special treat when we visit. The chef is innovative, the food is cooked to perfection and beautifully served. We were looked after by two delightful ladies and the whole experience was wonderful. We have no hesitation in recommending this fabulous eaterie :0)”
