About Koyo Amersham
Koyo Amersham is a Japanese restaurant in Amersham, at 39 Sycamore Rd, with a beer list that runs to Japanese craft and imported beers, including some unusual choices for anyone who wants something different from the usual lager. The menu centres on sushi, with tuna nigiri and a tuna dynamite roll, and takoyaki sits alongside them. Portions suit sharing, so a table can order several plates and pass them around. The space is small, and parties of one or two are likely to be seated at the bar or on high stools. Tables are wood.

Customer Review Summary
Sushi is the main draw, described as tasty and delicious, with fresh fish and rice one reviewer calls lovely. Orders named include the tuna dynamite roll, tuna nigiri and takoyaki. Close behind are the unusual Japanese craft beers, including a Hefe weizen and an imperial sweet potato amber, which several diners found a pleasant surprise. Service is described as friendly, fast and attentive, and one reviewer says staff took every measure to meet their accessibility needs. Complaints are small but specific. One diner found too many crispy onions on the sushi, another wanted thicker slices of fish, and one notes a sticky feel to the tables. Reviewers also mention the room is very small, so parties of one or two may be seated at the bar or on high stools, and a couple suggest reserving, especially for weekends. Portions are called generous and good for sharing, and one diner appreciated being able to take away whatever they had ordered too much of.

“I found this place on an app that counts calories from photos. The beer matched my low calorie limit, tasted good, and the serving size was standard. The restaurant is clean and has nice seating.”

“Generous and flavourful portions with lots of options to choose from. Good for sharing. Friendly staff and a good selection of Japanese beers. It's really nice that if you order too much you can take this away with you. Good value for money. Very small in there so bare in mind if you are a booking of 1 or 2 people you will likely be seated at the bar or high stools. This was not an issue for us.”

“Absolutely delicious food and excellent service. The sushi was amazing and we were delighted with the unusual Japanese craft beers on offer. We had a Hefe weitzen and an imperial sweet potato Amber. (no it did not taste of sweet potato)”

“A lovely atmosphere and very attentive service. The fish is fresh and food came out so quickly and just as described. My lower marks come just from wanting thicker slices of fish with the sushi. The rice was lovely, so it wasn’t bad; just expected a tad more fish. We ordered the takoyaki, zen, tuna dynamite roll and the tuna nigiri.”

“I eat at Koyo A LOT…. with friends and family and Ive even been with my husband, who is extremely critical he was impressed as well. I actually can’t believe I haven’t done a review before now but I’ve literally just waved “Hi” to Will and so I’m now sat down doing one. Koyo is a fab place to eat and the food and service is excellent too. I have been lucky enough to visit Japan and therefore sample lots of Japanese cuisine so feel I have a pretty good comparison. The team at Koyo are all fantastic, helpful and welcoming, but for me the stand out member of that team is Will. He is extremely polite and professional he has excellent recommendations and whenever I’m eating there has a nice large glass of wine ready and waiting. He always has a smile and is both accommodating and courteous. Now, while Koyo is top Amersham and not Tokyo, Osaka or Kyoto… I have to say… in Tokyo, Osaka and Kyoto… you don’t get a “Will”!”
