  “Really nice pub in centre of Alnwick. Great food, with very reasonable prices. Very friendly staff. Definitely check it out when in the area, I just wish I could stay longer. Will definitely come back.”

  “Every single person who has helped us in Alnwick—from the train station to our hotel—has been exceptionally kind, respectful, and polite... until we arrived at this restaurant. The staff member pictured was extremely rude and disrespectful. She clearly didn't want to serve us, made faces of disgust, ignored our "thank yous," and maintained a severely unpleasant attitude throughout. It is such a shame because the venue itself is very nice, with a great atmosphere and delicious food, but the experience was completely ruined by her. Although a gentleman stepped in later and provided great service, this waitress kept walking past our table making ugly gestures, practically trying to chase us away with her looks. I truly hope management retrains their staff and encourages them to be kind and respectful. I don't understand how this woman works in customer service; if she doesn't want to deal with people, she should find a job where she doesn't have to leave her house! Update: Everyone in our group was dissatisfied with her; she is extremely rude. The fact that she is 16 and it's her first job has nothing to do with the manners she received at home, where she clearly wasn't taught anything about kindness. Her face cannot be seen, I have no legal issues, the photo stays, and the review stays as well.”

  “Stayed here back in January. The staff were great, super friendly and full of great chat. Ate in the pub in the evening and it was very good. Well priced, decent pub food.”

  “Visited here after a day at Alnwick castle. We seem to have unfortunately visited on a bad day. There wasn’t many staff - I think only 2 servers, one of which admitted she was brand new at the job. She was lovely and genuinely trying her best. A little behind on orders, but calm, composed and as helpful as if she’d been there for years. The food arrived piping hot on the outside and kinda warm in the middle (sat under a heat lamp). The food generally tasted pretty good. From other reviews, previous experiences and the clear lack of staff, I appreciate it was a rare occasion for a Greene King pub. Which I understand, happens to the best of us!! For any management who read this, please give the young lady (new starter) some well deserved praise because genuinely she was amazing. A little unsure about table numbers, but even I didn’t know my table number and it was written in front of me 😂”

  “Went for dinner, great food. No haunting dispite the caused bottles. Lady's toilets odd with diagonal seats. Food was good, arrived quickly and warm. Easy to use app to order from the table. Would go back again.”

  “Everything was superb. Rooms were big and quirky in a good way and had decent mattresses and bedding. Proper old fashioned boozer with locals as well as tourists at the bar. Breakfast was great as were the evening meals we had there both nights. Not sure why anyone would splurge on the Cookie Jar when for a quarter of the price you can stay here.”

  “The Dirty Bottles is a unique and character-filled pub right in the heart of Alnwick town. The ambience is warm and inviting, with a historic charm that really adds to the overall experience. The service was also excellent—friendly, attentive, and welcoming throughout. The pub has an interesting bit of history behind it, dating back centuries as a former coaching inn. It’s famously known for the legend of a poisoned bottle displayed above the bar, said to have caused the death of someone who ignored the warning not to touch it—adding a quirky and slightly eerie touch to the place. When it comes to food, I’d recommend it mainly for those looking for a traditional English lunch experience. The menu leans heavily in that direction, so it may not suit everyone—especially if you’re used to Indian flavours, as the taste may not quite match that palate. Personally, I couldn’t fully enjoy the food for that reason. Overall, a great spot for ambience, history, and service—just choose it with the right expectations when it comes to the food.”

  “I have been to the dirty bottles several times in the past and I have to say this time I was very disappointed. It’s clear they have been bought over by a chain and have lost their sparkle. The menu use to have lots of variety and different stuff (not just pub food) but now it’s pretty standard. They also no longer do table service, I know a lot of restaurants are going this way but I don’t want to sit on my phone when out for a meal, had I known these changes in advance I would have probably chosen somewhere else. For me it’s not a unique restaurant with character anymore, it’s just like any other chain pub in the uk.”

  “This is our local go to pub! As a couple we definitely would recommend to anyone visiting Alnwick! We've stayed here before it had been changed to Greene King and the rooms are absolutely stunning! The food in this pub is absolutely amazing and they do get great deals on to which are always shown on their menu! We had an absolutely brilliant Mega Breakfast which we had been waiting for ages to have and this was really lovely and filling too. If you have the app you can also order food and drink to your table too! I definitely recommend visiting them!”
