About Kilau Coffee
Kilau Coffee is a coffee shop at 57-59 High St in Aberdeen, split across two levels. A separate takeaway shop operates downstairs, while the sitting area is upstairs, so the counter queue and the tables stay apart. The kitchen serves a full breakfast in which halloumi can replace black pudding, and the lunch menu includes salmon tagliatelle and chicken penne. Cheesecake leads a wide selection of cakes and pastries for the cabinet. The shop opens Monday to Saturday and closes on Sundays. Cold drinks include bottled lemonades and Fentimans Cherry Cola.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most for the cheesecake and the cakes, with one diner pairing a slice with early grey and strawberry, and others pointing to a large array of cakes and pastries. Close behind are the savoury plates: cheese fries that one reviewer called far better than expected, a hot tomato, carrot and corn soup, salmon tagliatelle, chicken penne, and a full breakfast with halloumi in place of black pudding. Drinks draw praise too, including Fentimans Cherry Cola, Pomelo San Pellegrino and the bottled lemonades. Several describe warm, friendly staff, including one visit just before closing, and a cozy upstairs seating area with a sheltered garden outside. A separate takeaway shop downstairs also gets a mention. The complaints are small but specific. One reviewer found the halloumi too salty and the salmon tagliatelle heavy on onion, and said the plate was chipped in three places with sauce on its rim. Another found the coffee heavy on syrup and the patio noisy. One reviewer suggests booking for lunch to avoid disappointment, and a regular of three years reports never having a bad experience.

“My friend and I visited today just before closing time, and despite arriving late, the staff were so welcoming. They greeted us with warm smiles and made us feel genuinely welcome. The coffee was excellent, the atmosphere was lovely, and the service was fantastic. We're already looking forward to coming back, this time with the rest of my family. Highly recommended! 😊”

“The cutest place with the loveliest staff. The food was delicious, with a perfect match of portion sizes and prices. I had a hot tomato, carrot, and corn soup that was delightful on a cool Scottish afternoon. And the cheese fries 🤯 Those had absolutely zero right to be that good! Their selection of bottled lemonades is also great 👍”

“Popped into Kilau while visiting the city and it’s honestly great. The cheesecake is incredible, we had early grey and strawberry. Definitely try a slice if you go. The cafe itself has a great setup. The sitting area upstairs is really cozy and relaxing, and they even have a nice sheltered garden space outside for warmer days. They also have a separate takeaway shop downstairs which is lovely. Everything was packed up carefully and it's perfect if you just want to grab your food and head out to explore. On top of that, the staff are super attentive and friendly. Highly recommend checking it out if you're in the area!”
