About Rosso e Nero
Rosso e Nero is an Italian restaurant at 25 Darlington St in Wolverhampton, near the Halls in the city centre, which suits diners heading to a pre-theatre or pre-concert meal. The 60-dish Italian menu moves from pasta, including penne with Italian sausage in tomato sauce, to steak, including fillet steak in peppercorn sauce. House Red is on the drinks list to go with the food. Desserts sit alongside the savoury courses, so a meal can run from starter to sweet course. Bread is part of the offer too, with garlic bread and lightly toasted sliced white bread both served to diners.

Steak is the dish reviewers raise most, and opinions split on it. Praise goes to a steak with mushroom sauce cooked to perfection and a huge tiramisu, with the veal with blue cheese, lasagna, risotto, and cheesecake also singled out. Several call the food delicious and authentic, and one says it arrived pipping hot. “I came with my son, pre concert reservation for 17:45. We didn't have a starter but it took until 18:30 for our food to be served. First impressions: very quiet and hence little or no atmosphere. My son would have chosen pizza but no pizza on the menu! An Italian restaurant without pizza? Apparently, no pizza cooking this Friday evening . He chose a penne dish with Italian sausage in a tomato sauce, he seemed to like it. I had fillet steak in a peppercorn sauce. It was cooked nicely but everything was tepid, probably because the chef put warm food in a cold plate. They forgot to bring my vegetables so I had to go to the counter and ask for them. Mediocre house red wine. Would we come again? Probably not.”

“Dined pre-concert in the Halls on a Monday evening. Waitress was attentive and friendly but the food was just not up to standard. We were offered bread and it was lightly toasted sliced white bread. We asked to see a Pizza menu but were told Pizza not on menu that evening. Ordered pasta and garlic bread. Pasta dishes were ok and nothing special and the garlic bread was the same sliced white bread with garlic butter spread on it and toasted. Bill was then incorrect but corrected with an apology. Shame but can’t recommend as the prices are good value.”

“While the Italian cuisine was quite authentic and worth the money, I would have to say the service was the highlight of this restaurant. The waitress, Sophie, was incredibly sweet and polite throughout the service, which I really appreciated. She made the whole experience feel even more enjoyable and I see myself returning here.”

“Ok, This was a pre theatre meal, arrived at 17:20 welcomed by the manager, who seated us and provided the menu's, we ordered mains with sides, I need to state through out our time we where the only cover in the restaurant. It took at least 20 + minutes for the food to be served by the manager, it was well presented, but the side vegetables where barely warm, and my steak only just at an acceptable temperature, the manager said " I forgot the steak knife" went away and never returned! Made the best of it due to the Theatre start time. Wanted to enjoy this restaurant, but ultimately left disappointed. Can't believe that this typical, but for us regrettably it is was a first and last time.”
