About The Peddler
The Peddler is a restaurant, cafe and bar in Whitehaven, housed in a former bus station with high ceilings. Combining the three formats under one roof means the team can serve cooked breakfasts, lunch, dinner and afternoon tea in the same building, and the owner positions it as a place to meet for business as well as eat. On the main menu, a feather blade steak comes with twice cooked chips, and burgers sit alongside it. The restaurant is open daily, and bookings are taken through the website. A specials sheet runs alongside the online menu.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the steak, with one describing a feather blade steak that melted in the mouth alongside enormous prawns, and others praising moist beef and a sticky toffee pudding that melts in the mouth. Close behind are the mighty marra burger, twice cooked chips, a Thai curry called the star of the show, and an afternoon tea with a scotch egg and sausage roll. Portions are described as generous, and several mention the spacious, modern, high-ceilinged room in the old bus station, with friendly staff and wheelchair-friendly access. Reviewers also say it is pricey, though a few feel the food justifies it. The recurring downsides are noise, with one finding the music too loud for conversation and another noting echo, and service lapses. One diner had to ask four or five times for water, then wait for glasses, and another found the gluten free menu unclear until staff checked with the chef. One reviewer who tried the afternoon tea felt it lacked finger sandwiches and left the brownie and lemon posset to take home in a box.

“This is a truly amazing space to eat in. It doesn't feel like an old bus station but the ceilings are certainly high. But it is a warm friendly space with, surprisingly, little echo. The food was really good if perhaps slightly on the expensive side. There was some confusion about what the menu said about gluten free food (the waiting staff had to check with the chef) ... and, in the end, perhaps it wasn't as extensive a list as I first hoped and thought! However I would certainly go again.”

“Went here as a couple, staying local to the area for the night. This place was recommended on Google. Right by the harbour. We didnt book beforehand but managed to grab a table. Food was beautiful! We had starters and mains. Both very good portion sizes! Decor was fresh and modern. Bougie some might say. Staff also very friendly! Would definitely come back if visiting the area again.”

“I went for dinner on Saturday (26/04) and then back for breakfast the following morning. The food was great, incredibly flavourful and well cooked. Ingredients we were obviously very good quality. Staff were friendly and efficient and I was happy with everything The only slight downside was the echoey nature of the building but not sure how much can be done about that. Would definitely recommend the Peddler though.”

“Had a lovely experience at The Peddler, entrance is via automatically doors so immediately wheelchair friendly. The staff were friendly and the whole place is spacious even the table height was great for wheelchairs users. There is a disabled WC inside. The food was served quickly and hot and of course tasty. The interior has high ceilings as it was an bus station before. The decor is modern and vibrant. The only downside for us was the music was a bit too loud for my old ears! Making conversation difficult with my lovely wife. Will hopefully pop back soon for another meal when in the area.”
