About Hundred King

Hundred King is a Chinese takeaway at 39 High St in Whitchurch, open evenings only from Tuesday to Sunday and closed on Mondays. The kitchen cooks familiar Chinese dishes, including chicken chow mein, satay chicken and chicken fried rice. Opening hours carry through Bank Holidays, so the evening schedule holds on those days too. Payment is cash only, which means customers need cash in hand for every order. A wait is common, including for orders placed in person.

“Not the worst takeaway but not the best. Some dishes are ok, but some are horrid. I ordered the crispy chilli beef which I could not even take more than 1 bite of, it had a horrible oily after taste and needs improvement. On the other hand, the satay chicken was nice as was the fried rice. The salty and pepper chicken is nice although it would be better if was fresher so it doesnt go hard”

“Don't get me wrong food is nice but like most Chinese takeaways 99.9% only except cash, it must be a very popular place as you have to wait almost 2 hours if you order in the restaurant”

“The food is good. But when the delivery driver criticises where i live and the fact that my neighbours car is too big then I have to say then I'll never use them again.”

“I've recently moved into the area & Hundred King came highly recommended. All I can say is; I'm not disappointed - the food is spectacular & really good value for money.”

“NOT WORTH THE WAIT! Called and was told a 2 hours for delivery, still ordered regardless. Chased after 2.5 hours was told it had just left, another half hour passed before it arrived and it was cold on arrival. Batter on chicken balls was undercooked and greasy. Total of 3 hours from from ordering even though we're about 5-10 minutes away. Such a disappointment.”

Customer Review Summary

Reviewers single out the wonton soup and vermicelli noodles, with one calling the wonton soup fabulous and the new yardstick for Chinese food. Close behind, several describe good food that is well priced, and the satay chicken, fried rice and salt and pepper chicken earn praise, though the salt and pepper chicken is said to go hard when it isn't fresh. Opinion splits on other dishes: one diner could not finish the crispy chilli beef because of an oily aftertaste, and another found the chicken fried rice and chow mein dull. Very long waits recur, both for in-restaurant orders and for delivery, where one order arrived cold with undercooked, greasy chicken ball batter. A couple of diners object that the takeaway is cash only, and one says a delivery driver criticised where they live. One reviewer reports raw chicken balls with curry sauce followed by food poisoning confirmed by a GP, and says the response both times was an offer of free chicken balls.
