About Captains Cabin Bar & Restaurant
Captains Cabin Bar & Restaurant is a family-run bar and restaurant in Weston Super Mare, on Birnbeck Rd, with a nautical theme throughout the pub. A roof terrace and a sun terrace at the back face the bay and the open sea, and the bar dining area looks out over the water as well. A shanty band performs at the pub, which adds live music to a meal or a drink. The menu includes cod and chips with mushy peas and hand made chips, Mussels in Thai Red Curry Sauce and a pork belly Asian starter. Food is served all day, every day, and a Sunday menu brings roasts alongside a few mains. Dogs are welcome in the pub and on the terrace, but not in the dining room at the rear.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers return most to the sun terrace and its sweeping sea views across the bay, with one describing the tide coming in at sunset. The food draws praise too: fish and chips called fresh with hand made chips, a steak lunch described as the most incredible steak meal of the year, and a pork belly Asian starter singled out as delicious. Staff are repeatedly called friendly, and a few mention a busy, welcoming crowd. Opinions on the food are more mixed. One Sunday diner found the turkey roast had only a few thin slices, dry potatoes and a salty, stock heavy gravy, calling it pub grub. Another ordered mussels in Thai red curry sauce and was told the dish comes with garlic bread, which a neighbouring table received. The kitchen had since closed, so none came, and with no spoon provided the partner mopped up the sauce with a teaspoon.

“I would like to say we had the best fish and chips in this restaurant. The fish tasted very fresh with the best hand made chips. I can highly recommend this place. The weather was perfect and the amazing sea view from the roof terrace. Big thanks for this experience. You are five stars 🌟 🤩”

“Came on a Sunday- checking out their website a few days before. No mention of Sunday only menu.. maybe that was my fault. Sunday options offered roasts and a few mains- such as fish and chips, curry, ham and eggs. Nice starter selection. We had the pork belly Asian starter which was delicious and came out quickly, followed by mains- ham and eggs and turkey roast. Again, maybe our fault thinking it was gammon- but was sliced ham instead. Good size portion of food. Nice crunchy chips and two fried eggs, nice 👌🏼 Roast was nice- good meat but only a few thin slices. Potatoes were a bit dry and unsure of taste- nice Yorkshire and pork stuffing. Nice plate of buttered veg to accompany it which was great. Gravy a bit stock heavy and very salty though. Overall re food- nice but not amazing, like pub grub. Prices reasonable. I would say 3.5/5 for food. Views to the sea were stunning. We sat at the bar dining area and the views were lovely. Watching the tide come in with a lovely sunset. Staff friendly- nice waiter who was friendly and chilled- thanks Decor full of character- a nice touch Would recommend if you’re not overly fussy on food quality. Views stunning.”

“An impromptu visit, we were just going to get fish ‘n chips to eat on the beach. Warm welcome from the barman who was informative regarding the layout. Sat in a quiet part and let waiting staff know we were there. Ordered mussels in Thai Red Curry Sauce and Cod and Chips with Mushy Peas and the optional extra curry sauce. All of it was delicious. However, a party of 4 arrived in the same area some time after us but received their food before us. They also had mussels, which came with garlic bread for them. After making enquiries, we were told the dish did come with garlic bread, they were sorry we didn’t get ours and the kitchen was now closed so we wouldn’t be getting it. My partner owns a property in Weston and would be open to regular visits, however, this was a bit annoying. Particularly as the mussels really needed bread to mop up the sauce and we weren’t even given a spoon, my partner had to do what he could with his teaspoon. Despite this niggle (more than a niggle for me if the dish really should have included the bread & wasn’t ordered as an extra by the other table) we probably would go back at some point, its a lovely location and the food was nice.”
