Customer Review Summary
The criticism is real and specific. One reviewer found the Tom Kha split and bland, the Pad Thai just noodles with soya sauce and a few bean sprouts, and the wontons overcooked. Another found vegetarian wontons filled with stodgy mashed potato, tempura with heavy batter, and egg fried rice with very little egg. A third says portions have shrunk and prices risen, with a dish meant to be crispy arriving dry. One family felt hurried along and wished tips could go through card payment.

“I’ve been coming to Yan in Westhill for years, and it’s one of those places that never disappoints. The food is consistently excellent, and I’ve honestly never had a bad meal there. If you’re visiting for the first time, I’d definitely recommend the starter platter. There’s a great variety, it’s always freshly cooked, and it’s perfect for sharing. What really sets Yan apart, though, is the service. The staff are friendly, welcoming, and genuinely care that you have a good experience. Brian, the owner, is a big reason we’ve kept coming back over the years. He always takes the time to chat, remembers his customers, and makes you feel more like family than just another table. It’s rare to find a restaurant that gets everything right year after year, but Yan does exactly that. Great food, fantastic service, and a warm atmosphere every time. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to anyone.”

“Used to be good. Now smaller portions and higher price. Bit of a letdown. One of our dishes supposed to be crispy but was so dry it was barely edible.”

“Had a great meal here last night, the private room works well for a family gathering. Food was excellent and the staff looked after us very well. Highly recommended”

“Went for dinner. It was very busy. The service was indifferent although the boy who took orders knew the dishes well. The vegetarian wontons just had stodgy mashed potatoes inside. The vegetable tempura had so much batter around!! which to me I think are not the way tempura should be made. They should have a very thin layer of batter!! The schezwan vegetables was ok but we’ve had better ones. The chicken with cashew was fine. I wish had some broccoli too in some of the vegetable and chicken dishes. Noodles were fine. The egg fried rice had very little egg in it! Overall a bit disappointed!”

“I have been here before a takeaway. I find the food good quality, tasty and portion sizes are good. I was served quickly even though it was busy, friendly staff and service. Price was also good”
