About Spitfire Cafe
Spitfire Cafe is a daytime cafe at 154A Main Rd in Westerham, open daily. Its walls are hung with old photographs of Second World War fighter pilots, which reflect the cafe's long history tied to the local air field and give a meal here a link to that past. The menu centres on the full English breakfast, served with bacon, sausage, black pudding, fresh tomatoes, fresh mushrooms and buttered toast. Sausage comes as Cumberland, spicy beef or vegetarian. A bacon and egg baguette covers a lighter order, and ham, egg and chips sits alongside it. Items are served as listed and can't be swapped individually. The cafe has changed ownership, and the original decor has been kept.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often return for the full English breakfast, with several calling it the best in years, praising the sausages, black pudding, fresh tomatoes and mushrooms, and toast so heavily buttered it was almost floppy. Close behind is the change of ownership, which splits opinion: some say the food has moved up market and is better value, while others say the menu has become confused. One reviewer found the ham, egg and chips smaller than the menu described, with gammon cut into four pieces, and a normal pork sausage unavailable. Another got a foot-long bacon and egg baguette with only two thin pieces of bacon. Service draws mixed accounts too, from friendly and quick to slow and rude, including a tea bag dumped beside a mug of boiling water. A gluten-avoiding diner could not swap the sausage for an alternative, and another reviewer notes little parking. Photographs of Second World War fighter pilots on the walls, tied to the local airfield, come up as a draw, as do outdoor seats.

“Under previous owners couldn't have been happier with food, service, price etc. First visit under new owners, and will be the last under these owners. Far too many menu changes / the menu is confused are they trying to be a posh cafe or a cheap Mediterranean restaurant ? Choices severely limited if you do eat either a Cumberland sausage, a spicy beef sausage or vegetarian sausage as a normal pork sausage unavailable. The servers were slow, sloppy, rude and seem uninterested. I ordered a tea, to have a mug of boiling water, and a tea bag dumped on the table, the girl serving then walked away quickly, when she returned with a coffee for my mum (who said it was the worse coffee she has ever had) I asked for milk, and sugar, the girl was obviously annoyed by this, so much so she walked off before I'd finish speaking, this was underlined when she returned with just milk, so I again I asked for sugar, to be greeted with a groan, and a stomp off to get sugar. I ordered ham egg and chips as quoted on the menu "3 generous slices of gammon ham, 2 free range eggs, chips, and beans" - in reality one reasonable slice of ham cut in to 4 pieces, 2 of the smallest eggs I've ever seen, handful of chips, and I guess to try and pad it out about half a tin of bake beans, and that was after waiting about 20 minutes for it! My mother ordered a jacket potato with filling, she said it was not particularly nice, she could tell it was cheaper ingrediencies than the previous owners used to use, and didn't finish it. In the past this would have cost approx £21 now £27.50! even paying the bill was not straight forward as the woman behind the counter had such a poor grasp of English/strong accent, just trying to confirm which table/bill I was paying was hard work, and took nearly 5 minutes! In short the prices have gone up, the quality of the food/portion sizes has gone down, you don't get what you pay for/is advertised on the menu, and the service is poor/slow - AVOID AVOID AVOID - SAVE YOUR MONEY GO SOMEWHERE ELSE”

“I thought I'd visit to see what's changed under the new management. I had the best "greasy spoon" breakfast Ive had for years. Really good quality everything, bacon that's not just salty, splendid fat sausages and (one my favourite things) fab black pudding. Fresh tomatoes, fresh mushrooms and toast so heavily buttered that it was almost floppy. Great bekkies!!!”

“Vastly improved under the new ownership who are extremely friendly and have brought the food up market. They have still kept all the decor and seem invested in keeping the original character of the place. The food is now particularly good and better value overall for the quality of what you are getting. I did think it had gone downhill towards the end of the previous ownership. That is now reversed. Thoroughly recommended.”
