About East Restaurant

East Restaurant is a pan-asian restaurant at 1 Glacier Way in Wembley, set above and at the back of the Loon Fung Asian supermarket. A family runs it, and guests can shop for groceries downstairs before heading up to eat. Dim sum has its own menu, separate from the main one, and diners can order from either in the same meal. The dim sum list includes xiao long bao filled with crab and pork, prawn dumplings, and turnip cake. Cheung fun rice rolls come with BBQ roast pork or beef, and congee is on offer with pork and preserved egg. Desserts are made in house, and the mango cheesecake is one of them. Cards are accepted, and cash payments receive a 10% discount.

Customer Review Summary

Dim sum draws most reviewers, and the congee, especially the pork with preserved egg, is the dish named most often, described as silky, flavourful and a good consistency. Close behind are the prawn, scallop and peashoot dumplings, the beef and BBQ pork cheung fun, the fluffy pork bao and a mango cheesecake called creamy and smooth. One reviewer calls the duck spring rolls the best they have had. Opinion on the rest splits. Some find the dim sum fresh and handmade, while critics describe the har gow as thick skinned, the xiao long bao as carelessly wrapped, and the char siu and duck as dry. Several say prices match or exceed Chinatown restaurants in London, and one describes tiny portions and a disappointing hot and sour soup. Staff are repeatedly called friendly and attentive, and a few mention a quiet, cosy room. When a pan-fried turnip cake did not taste fresh, staff helped cancel it, and another table had the tasteless, salty crispy seafood noodles deducted from the bill.

“I was really looking forward to the food here but the quality was really mediocre. The XLB were so subpar and wrapped so carelessly, the meat for the charsiew & duck was sooo dry, the beef hor fun was edible at best. Ambience was great, toilet was really clean, but definitely not returning. Perhaps as a Chinese, I had really high standards, but it will be a pass for me.”

“Really chill spot at the back of a Chinese supermarket. My boyfriend and I tried a few dishes and everything was so good! We had the congee, wonton soup, pork bao, and scallop dim sum. The bao were amazing — super fluffy and tasty! The staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back.”

“Quite like coming here from time to time for the dim sum. Mostly because it’s convenient due to its location above the Loon Fung Asian supermarket and for the parking. However, the dim sum is a bit of a mixed bag. Their har gow (crystal prawn dumpling) is sub par with a thick skin but some of their other dishes are decent enough (such as the fried taro dumplings and their beef cheung fun). It’s about average and prices are similar to some other (better) establishments in China Town (and the one on Baker Street). Service is friendly and efficient.”

“We recently enjoyed some dim sum that was recommended by family, and it was such a delightful experience! The dim sum menu had a fantastic variety, and we loved every dish that came out, all served at just the right pace. The restaurant itself has a cozy vibe while still being spacious enough for a good number of guests. I’d definitely suggest making a reservation! The staff were amazing—super friendly, attentive, and really made us feel welcome, which added so much to our overall dining experience. Plus, there's plenty of parking and easy access, which is a big plus. Honestly, it’s the best value for money we’ve found in terms of both quality and quantity. Payment in cash has 10% discount. Credit card is accepted but no discount.”
