About Tawa

Tawa is a restaurant on St Albans Road in Watford, built around the tawa platter format where mixed grills arrive on a sizzling hot plate at the table. The menu runs halal, and share-style tawa platters for two sit at the centre of the ordering choices, alongside kids' burgers for younger diners. Seating covers multiple room areas with plenty of space for families and larger groups. Orders can take noticeably longer than expected to arrive, so it suits diners who are happy to settle in rather than rush the meal. The kitchen leans into the tawa presentation as its main format rather than a traditional plated service, which shapes how each meal lands. It sits on St Albans Road, a through street on the western edge of the town centre.

Customer Review Summary

Tawa platters drive most visits, with diners praising generous portions and fresh, tasty food for groups and families. Close behind, the seekh kebab and lamb tikka draw repeat orders. Several reviewers, however, describe burnt, hard kebabs, watery daal mash, slow service, and an unexpected mid-afternoon closing. One reviewer credits a server by name.

“It’s 2.25pm and they have a sign saying. Sorry we are closed. Maybe adjust the opening hours if open later. Made the trek for nothing.”
  • babar sultan
“Honestly one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever visited. Ordered a small tawa platter – the lamb tikka and kebabs were burnt and rock hard, nobody could eat them. The daal mash was terrible too, basically just water – they clearly have no idea how to make it properly. Total waste of money, avoid at all costs.😡😡😡😡😡😡”
