Customer Review Summary
Pizza draws the most mentions, with one reviewer calling the pancetta, mascarpone and truffle pizza superb and others praising the half and half pasta and pizza deal. Children's pizza, where kids add their own toppings, is described as great fun, and the lamb pasta and dessert earn good words too. Food is often called good but nothing outstanding, and several describe a warm welcome and friendly, attentive staff, though a couple of staff are called rude. The most repeated complaint is slow service. Diners report long gaps before starters and mains, including on a nearly empty afternoon when later arrivals were served first, and one party cancelled plans. Kitchen execution draws criticism as well: calzones burnt on top, a barely warm pizza, dry chicken bites and a Pollo Kiev with oily butter. One diner who doesn't eat meat was served spaghetti bolognaise and was told that was what had been ordered.

“Our visit as a family of four started with a warm welcome from the wait staff. It’s a lovely venue inside that has a modern decorative finish and up-market feel. The food was of a fair standard - kids pizza was great fun, getting to asked to put the toppings on themselves is a good touch! Chicken bites was just a birds-eye style chicken dipper that were a bit overdone or perhaps left under a heat lamp, giving them a dry finish. Lamb pasta was nice, served rich sauce. Pollo Kiev - dry breast of chicken served with a large helping of melted oily butter. Nice amount of garlic, but lacking umami. Overall, an underwhelming meal and probably wouldn’t return.”

“Hadn’t been here in a few years but decided to give it a go after seeing all the hype on social media and menu looked good. Took 25 minutes to get a drink, over an hour for the starters and then an hour and 50 minutes before the mains arrived…. Ordered half pizza half pasta and got the wrong pasta. I pointed this out to the waiter who replied that’s what you ordered. I replied I didn’t order that I don’t eat meat. He replied well that’s what was ordered with the margarita then went off to the kitchen. Turned out my husband had the dish I was meant to get and the one on mine was intended for him. As it was just the wrong pasta my husband didn’t argue and took it (it was spaghetti bolognaise which isn’t even on the menu and was meant to be tagliatelle bolognaise. Minor detail considering everything else) once that was sorted we stared to eat. The food tasted good but nothing amazing and pizza was barely warm. Needless to say we’ll be sticking to the prospect in Penshaw for our Italians.”

“4 of us went for my son’s birthday meal. We’ve been coming here for years. Took 45 minutes to receive starters. These were ok. Mains took ages. Very mediocre. The two calzone pizzas were over cooked to the point of being burnt on top and really hard to cut. ( I would be embarrassed to send these out if I was a chef) Chips looked terrible. Something has definitely changed here. Waiting staff were nice enough, but we will not be going back . Definitely living on a past good reputation.”

“Celebrated my birthday at Fiume on Saturday night. Food was fantastic our server Danielle was great. Fab atmosphere there was 18 of us with a few kids too. Drinks took a little while to arrive when ordered but it was busy. Great night had by all.”
