Customer Review Summary

Battered cod and haddock with chips draw the most praise, with reviewers describing crispy golden batter, tender fish and food cooked to order. Refills of chips for those who eat in come up repeatedly, along with refillable sauces and mushy peas. Diners also name scampi, a fish cake, a veggie burger and curry sauce as good choices. Staff are described as friendly, chatty and attentive, and one reviewer notes every team member said goodbye on leaving. The recurring complaints concern value and consistency. Several find prices high. One longtime regular says the tartare sauce now comes as an upcharge in a tiny pot and no longer tastes homemade. Another reports chips that were not hot and undercooked on repeated visits, and mostly raw on the last one. One reviewer found portions smaller than expected. Another, whose car broke down outside, says staff came out and helped push it.

“Following an exhausting day in Warwick Castle I decided to have a look at the town centre for a decent fish and chip shop for our evening meal. I stumbled upon "The Chip Shed", but it didn't really look like my experience of a fish and chips shop from the outside. I'm used to name such as "Oh My Cod" or "The Plaice to Be". We saw a local chap leaving with his food and approached him for his opinion. He told us that it was really good. We ordered Haddock and chips & Scampi and chips. In addition we had a portion of tartare sauce and also curry sauce. The right decision was definitely made. The fish and scampi were perfectly cooked and the batter was light and crispy. The chips were also cooked to perfection and were very tasty. The tartare sauce was also very good, but sticking to my Southern roots I didn't try the curry sauce! Apparently that was also amazing. These were probably the best fish and chips that we have ever experienced, and will definitely go back for more if we find ourselves in Warwick in the future. I have only left fewer stars for atmosphere as it was a quiet Tuesday evening following a Bank Holiday. The photo doesn't do justice as we had started eating the food from it's wrappers in our campervan.”

“Well, couldn't be a better place to break down in front of. Honestly the nicest, most helpful people. Even helped push the car. Food wise it was beautiful, lovely service, kind friendly. Food freshly cooked and something for everyone. Really worth the money for sure”

“I visited on Friday evening and ate in the restaurant. The restaurant closed at 20:30 which I hadn't realised so had to eat a bit quickly but that was my fault. I had a sausage and chips and although I thought was slightly on the expensive side there were refills of chips so you were not going home hungry ! The staff were very attentive and service was excellent. My wife had the fish cake which she said was very nice. Overall I 'd say this place was on the expensive side but worth the money for a good chipshop meal.”

“Have visited on several occasions. First visit we sat in for - a very pleasant experience, the veggie burger was nice and the staff were super lovely. Next few times I noticed that the quality of chips was really not there - not very hot and undercooked. The last time we came I either got the very last of the batch that had sat there all day, or the chef just didn't know what he was doing, as pretty much all the chips were completely raw. For the price you're paying this was really disappointing and haven't visited since.”

“Used to love it but recent visits has left us thinking it isnt what it was. Prices are very high, mushy peas and tartare sauce came as standard in sizeable tubs, now the tartare sauce is an upcharge in a tiny pot and doesnt taste like the homemade unique quality of old. Just didn't taste like it once did. Score is high based on many previous visits, on last weeks we would seek elsewhere.”
