About The Fox and Vivian

The Fox and Vivian is a pub and steakhouse in Leamington Spa, on Clarendon Ave, run by proprietor and head chef Matt since 2010. The kitchen cuts its Aberdeen Angus steaks by hand and serves them with chips, onion rings, tenderstem broccoli, mushrooms and a choice of sauce. A sharing box of meats and ribs gives two people enough to share, and sticky toffee pudding sits on the dessert list. The bar pours real ale, and live sport plays across five screens. Tables can be booked online, and dogs are welcome. An upstairs function room hosts birthdays and sports socials for groups.

Customer Review Summary

Steak is what diners come for, with reviewers describing ribeye, sirloin and fillet cooked as ordered, juicy and tender, and several calling it the best they have had. The sharing box is close behind, described as enough for two with ribs that fall off the bone. Starters and sides get mentions too, including mac and cheese croquettes that were cheesy and full of flavour, crispy onion rings and a bisscoff cheesecake. Staff are repeatedly called welcoming and helpful, and one table found room on a busy Friday without a booking.

“I book here asking for low table, arrived to find I'd been reserved a high table which I could not cope with. So they gave us the biggest table there. Not very intimate as I had also informed them it was our wedding anniversary. We were served by two different servers, the first was bit haphazard the second one was very good. I had steak with tenderness broccoli, tenderness it was not, jammed in my teeth like string and I had to pull it to get it out! Hubby had chicken tenders which he enjoyed. Dessert we had bisscoff cheesecake which was gorgeous, can highly recommend that. So on the whole we enjoyed our meal, sadly I forgot to photograph the nails.”

“Exelent. We turned up on a Friday evening with no booking. They managed to find us a table. My wife had steak and prawns, one of the best steaks she has had for a very long time. I opted for a sharing box (I was feeling hungry) Wow, what a fantastic selection and perfectly cooked. Highly recommend this venue, great staff, and we will be returning. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ CHEERS ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐ ⭐”

“The food is good, my wife has the hot honey chicken burger which was brilliant. I had the chicken wings which were okay, a little dry in the drumstick and the buffalo sauce needed to be more buttery. I would also recommend that they tossed the wings in the sauce rather than simply drizzle it over. The thing that lets this place down is it's so loud. Not atmospheric loud. But pub boozer loud. Second time I have been and it was the same. They need to do a better job of separating the drinkers from the eaters as you can't hear yourself think. There is one table in the corner where you may as well invite people at the bar to eat with you! The staff and service were faultless. Bigger venue with a dedicated restaurant area this would be a 5 star. It's unfortunate as we probably won't go again. But if you want a loud place where (and I'm not being mean) you can't hear the otherside of the table and more of a party vibe then check this place out. I would also highly recommend you try it on a week night and it might be quieter.”

“Visited here for the 1st time tonight and my gosh what a steak!!! There was a party of 6 and 4 of had steaks and the other 2 had the sharing box. When the steaks arrived I was shocked at the size of them. I can’t remember the last time I had seen that much steak on a plate… Despite asking for well done my own steak wasn’t burnt enough for me (yes I ruin steak) so had to send it back but when it returned it was literally amazing. Still juicy and cooked to perfection. The sharing box was a great success and enough food for 2. The meat fell off the ribs and everything else was throughly enjoyed. I couldn’t see advertised they did puddings so was pleasantly surprised when they said they did and oh what a delight the sticky toffee pudding was. The only negative I would say was the loudness as didn’t realise that for all intents we were sat in a pub BUT it was still a very enjoyable experience. The staff were a solid 10 out of 10! Friendly, polite and very efficient. The chef who cooked my steak deserves a pay rise. There was lots of praise around the table and a couple of, it’s the best meal out had in a long time and I would completely agree. Will definitely come back again and would highly recommend if you want a great steak!”

“We took my Father in Law for his birthday and had booked a table for 7pm. Place was busy with a good atmosphere. He and my husband both ordered a medium 10oz Ribeye with onion rings and I ordered a rare 8oz Sirloin with garlic king prawns. All our steaks were cooked to perfection, they were juicy and tender, very flavoursome. Best steaks we've had when eating out. The onion rings were nice and crispy, larger portions than we expected. From the moment we entered to the moment we left, the service was faultless, staff welcoming and attentive, so thanks guys it was a very successful birthday treat and we will definitely be going back!”

Highlights

“Hand-cut, locally sourced Aberdeen Angus steaks are what The Fox & Vivian is known for - alongside a proper Sunday roast, a pint of real ale, and 2-for-1 Burger Mondays. We're an independent pub and steakhouse on Clarendon Avenue in the heart of Leamington Spa, run by proprietor and head chef Matt since 2010. Catch live sport across 5 screens, bring the dog along, or book online for a table. Our private function room is available for birthdays and sports socials, and gift vouchers make an easy present. Still the same personality that made this place a local favourite in the first place.”
