About The Weld Arms
The Weld Arms is a pub in East Lulworth, Dorset, housed in a 17th century coaching inn directly opposite Lulworth Castle. Dogs are welcome both inside and out, which makes it an easy stop for visitors travelling with them. The estate has taken the inn back under its own management and renovated the bar and restaurant, adding a new kitchen and a longer drinks list. The menu runs to 58 dishes, among them Tempura Prawns and a venison burger, and three starters are offered as a set deal for sharing. Dorset and Palmer's ales are poured at the bar. Sunday roast is served too.

Customer Review Summary
Diners most often praise the Sunday roast, called a very good standard, with superb desserts alongside. The venison earns close mentions, both as a main and as a burger, and one table singled out the crispiest fish and chips. Well kept beers, a huge beer garden and a cosy, dog friendly setting come up as extras, and many call the staff lovely. The caveat is inconsistency. Reviewers describe slow food and a thinly staffed floor, plus under done chips, overcooked chicken nuggets, a burnt yorkshire pudding and tempura prawns in thick, oily batter. One diner asked for no anchovies on the Caesar salad and it arrived topped with them. Another was told there were no specials, then overheard mussels described as one. Two note tables cleared with nobody returning to ask about pudding.

“We were looking forward to lunch here however it was a rather disappointing experience. Service was quite rushed from seating, no wine/ drinks menus offered rather the waiting team reeled off options. We asked if there were any food specials and were told no. Our order was taken to the wrong table and noone checked in throughout. Chicken nuggets, whilst fresh chicken breast, were overcooked and dark brown. The yorkshire pudding was also burnt. The venison however was very good. The tempura prawns were so heavy with thick, oily batter I couldn't eat them. Eventually we had to go to the bar to ask to pay as noone came to clear the plates, offer pudding etc. That was when I overheard another staff member say there were mussels on the menu as a special. As a pescetarian this would have appealed as the menu is very meat heavy and was frustrating as we had explicitly asked for specials and informed there were none. All in all, rather disappointing.”

“Beautiful old pub. We had the Sunday roast and it was of a very good standard. Well kept beers too. Huge beer garden with ample seating.”

“Food was underwhelming for the price. Had better in the area. Asked for no anchovies on the Caesar salad and was assured that there is no whole ones in it and it arrived topped with anchovies and tasting very fishy. We were not asked if the food was ok or if we wanted any more drinks. When we finished the table was cleared and then nobody came to ask if we wanted desert. Staff were friendly and the pub was nice inside but we were one of two tables inside and it felt like they had forgot about us!”
