Customer Review Summary
Most reviewers return for consistently good food and generous portions, often enough for leftovers the next day, with salt and pepper tofu singled out as a favourite and a special chow mein, a special curry and large spring rolls praised for plenty of meat and filling size. Collection is described as quick, and delivery as hot, correct and handled by lovely drivers. Several say the food slipped after a change in the kitchen and has since recovered, and one longtime customer says it has worsened over recent years. The negatives are specific. One reviewer found the lemon chicken hard and batter heavy and the duck curry bland and full of skin, another called the egg fried rice flavourless and the salt and chilli chicken too dry to eat, and a third described a slimy chicken chop suey in sweet and sour sauce. One caller says the phone was hung up on them mid-order. A few would like more vegetarian choices, and one notes no freebies despite years of regular orders.

“I have been ordering from the Mayflower takeaway for over 30 years and over the last few years the food has been getting worse. Tonight was the last time I order from there, I have never had a chicken chop suey in a sweet and sour sauce, the bit of chicken tasty slimy awful.”

“I’ve had countless meals from this place and never had a bad meal. Best Chinese food around. Our usual order comes to between £30-£40.. that being said they’ve never given us anything free and we’ve been using them about 5 years (a lot of places do free spring rolls etc when you spend over a certain amount). Delivery is most of the time within 45 minutes. Excellent take away 👍🏻”

“Nice food, very quickly prepared! Decent portions, too - I usually have enough left over for the following day! Been back a few times recently and the food's as good as ever! Nice to have a place like this nearby, where you know the taste and quality of the food is always consistently good. Been in today - the food's as good as ever! Walked in, ordered my food, and less than 10 minutes I was walking home with my tea! Staff friendly as ever and the food still consistently great! Highly recommended! 10/10 Just been back again tonight after a long day at work.. Food is just as good as it's ever been! Portion size is great, and no complaints about the quality of the food either. No wonder they've always got food deliveries being collected! Very popular place with consistently good food. Highly recommended. Been a while since I've been in, but I felt like treating myself! The food tonight was top notch! I've even got some leftovers for tomorrow as well!”
