About The Standard Inn, Portscatho
The Standard Inn, Portscatho is a freehouse pub in Portscatho, run by the owners of the Hidden Hut. The garden holds a grill and an outdoor bar, and a separate Garden Menu covers what comes off it. Reservations are required. Dogs are welcome, which suits visitors travelling with a pet. A pub in the village that pairs a grill with its own bar gives the garden a purpose beyond a place to sit.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often single out the garden, where diners eat outside with blankets on cooler evenings and describe the setting as lovely in the sunshine. Sunday lunch comes up repeatedly, with the lamb called succulent and the lamb kofta named as the stand out, followed by a chicken sandwich. Others mention the mussels, tomato salad, pizza with chips, strawberries with Chantilly cream and Padron peppers, and the food is described as excellent, fresh and delicious. Cocktails are called surprisingly good, and one waitress arranged a drink that was not on the menu. Staff are described as friendly, welcoming and attentive, including to a large group. One reviewer found the menu not huge but said there was something for everyone. Another watched an England game on the big screen with great local ales. The only shortfall is one walk-in pair who could not get lunch because the pub was fully booked, yet they were given a warming fire outside and extra kindness with their drinks and snacks.

“My son and I turned up on Sunday hoping to get in for lunch as a walk in. While we did not manage to have lunch -as it was fully booked-we were treated with a warming fire outside and extra kindness with our drinks and snacks. What a fabulous place to welcome people with such warmth even when it is a busy and hectic day. I cannot wait to book for lunch .This place is special.”

“Went for Sunday lunch again. Dined in the raised garden room. Food first class. The lamb was succulent, best I’ve tasted. Definitely the best destination pub in the region. Unfortunately we go home this coming weekend so won’t be back until next summer ☹️.”

“Super lovely garden area with delicious food! Popped over for lunch and enjoyed the lamb kofta as the stand out and then chicken sandwich. Friendly staff to top it all off - Worth the walk up the hill in the heat!!!”

“Ate outside, very nice setting with blankets if we were cold. Waitress was fantastic, she was attentive, friendly and arranged for a cocktail that wasn’t listed on the menu. The menu wasn’t huge but that didn’t matter as there was something for everyone. Padron peppers were beautiful. Inside looked gorgeous. Would definitely reccomend eating here.”
