Quick info
About Rock Garden Cafe Bar
Rock Garden Cafe Bar is a bar and grill in Torquay, on Swan St, with a beer garden at the back set between old industrial buildings. Live music runs on weekend evenings, so the garden doubles as a place to catch a band over a drink. The kitchen cooks pizzas, steaks and burgers, and the nachos come in large portions that suit sharing. At the bar, 1664 Blanc and Estella are on tap, and the cocktail list sits alongside them.

Customer Review Summary
Friendly, relaxed staff are what reviewers mention most, with several describing servers and bar staff who happily chatted or left guests to it, and one group who moved tables three times without any fuss. The beer garden comes close behind, called lovely and tucked between old industrial buildings, and one reviewer says it is easy to forget the town around it. Live music earns praise from two visitors. The nachos are so large that one suggests sharing a portion. Others single out the show stopper cocktails, 1664 Blanc and Estella on tap, and a messy burger served with proper potato wedges instead of fries. The pizza draws the sharpest complaint. One diner received what they called a frozen type base, found the coleslaw horrible, and liked only the onion rings. Another notes the steak on a stone is no longer offered. One reviewer who left their glasses behind came back the next morning and found an owner ready to help.

“I was expecting good things from this establishment based on the reviews. We both ordered pizza with onion rings and coleslaw. We expected for the price of the pizzas for them to be fresh dough based and cooked in a pizza style oven. We received a frozen type base you get in a supermarket. I have tasted far better £3 pizzas from Lidl. The coleslaw had a horrible taste and only good things were the onion rings. We left most of it and wished we had gone to Wetherspoons. Half the price for the pizzas and drinks and a million times better. If Wetherspoons can sell decent pizza why can’t RGC?”

“Lovely bar and a beautiful beer garden at the back. They also provide a service where they look after your luggage for you before you travel home. Excellent service and very friendly staff. The cocktails were also very good!”

“We spent Easter weekend in Torquay and went to the Rock Garden on the recommendation of the tattooist across the road! We weren't disappointed and spent 6 hours in there!! Nothing was too much trouble for Agne & Stefan who looked after us while we were there. We were fussy about our seating arrangement and moved 3 times but nothing fazed these guys. Service with a smile and a bit of banter. We recommend the show stopper cocktails. We had nachos to eat but didn't realise how big they would be. We would say maybe share one! We stayed for the live music by Limewires who were awesome! The next morning, I realised that I'd left my glasses behind so popped back to find them. Yuri, one of the owners helped us and we stopped for a chat. We then decided to go back that night for more live music as we had felt so safe there the night before ☺️”
