Quick info
About The Boathouse
The Boathouse is a bar and grill on Marine Drive in Paignton, set on the seafront overlooking Preston beach. The kitchen covers breakfast through later meals, with the house-branded boathouse burger at the centre of the menu alongside a vegan burger option. Mediterranean vegetables and potatoes can be ordered as an accompaniment to fish, which is served with a wine and garlic sauce. Dogs are welcome, and guests seat themselves rather than waiting to be shown to a table. The space works as a bar, a breakfast spot and a restaurant under one roof, giving it a broad daily rhythm from morning plates through evening drinks against the coastal setting.

Customer Review Summary
Most praise the Boathouse Burger and the vegan burger, with several calling the food excellent and the seafront views a draw. Close behind, the breakfast and fish and chips draw repeat visits, and reviewers describe friendly, polite service. However, two visitors report serious lapses: one waited 30 minutes without service and left, and another received a cold, dried-out Mediterranean fish plate that contradicted a previous good visit.

“I have been here several times and had wonderful fish and chips but on this last occasion, I had the fish with Mediterranean veg and potatoes. Terrible. Fish was dried up and everything was stone cold, including the wine and garlic sauce. Was so disappointed. On a previous occasion, I had the same dish and the potato was a slim slither, oblong, piping hot and beautiful with well-presented veg beautifully chopped on top of the fish. The fish on this occasion was also skin side up, (error) and the potato was just a huge mound of cold mashed potato. Yuk. 2026”

“A friend recommended this place, so we visited on Tuesday around 5–6 PM. When we arrived, the waiter didn't even bother showing us to a table—he just vaguely waved his hand toward a far section for us to figure it out ourselves. We sat down and waited for 30 minutes, but nobody ever came over to give us a menu or take our order. The overall attitude and service were incredibly disappointing, so we ended up just walking out. Terrible customer service. I won't be back and definitely wouldn't recommend this place to anyone.”
