Customer Review Summary
Reviewers most often praise the staff, described as friendly, welcoming and funny, with several also pointing to the rooms and breakfast, including one self contained suite with a kitchen and lounge. Dogs get a warm reception, with one pair of wet Labradors welcomed and a doggy day mentioned. Close behind are the pork loin, the oven chips and the daily specials, along with a good range of beers and wines. A cyclist was let camp in the paddock for free. The food draws mixed views. One reviewer found the mushrooms on sourdough had no blue cheese and the BBQ burger had no BBQ sauce, while another found the lunch portion small. Two one-star reviews describe waits of around an hour and a half for burgers and other dishes that arrived cold, with stale bread. A waiter offered to reheat them, and a manager who offered new plates came across as unapologetic. Both parties walked out, and they noted another table with the same problem.

“Properly lovely place. I called in while cycling the Peddars Way in need of somewhere to stay and they let me camp in their paddock opposite for free. Didn't even seem like there was an expectation of me coming in for a pint which was really nice, genuinely just helping people out. That being said I did of course come in for a pint. Friendly people, lovely atmosphere, music going on in one of the rooms and a nice garden. Had a couple nice lagers and a massive plate of oven chips which I couldn't finish. Definitely stop by”

“Charming traditional Norfolk inn with great food and character. Atmosphere: A classic country inn full of character, warm history, and welcoming local charm. Dining: Outstanding pub food with generous portions, excellent changing daily specials, and a great selection of real ales on tap. Accommodation: Comfortable, clean en-suite rooms that offer a peaceful night's sleep in a scenic village location. A fantastic spot for anyone looking for a authentic village pub experience in Norfolk.”

“My husband and I were taken to the Windmill as a treat on our holiday as they had heard that it was a good place to go. Much to their horror and us it was anything but..... First impressions were good but it went downhill fast. We arrived early, got our drinks and went and sat at our table, taking our order was quick - the food arriving was a different matter. After over an hour and a half I had to go and ask where our food was!! ( I had NO idea 3 burgers and what was essentially a Steak baguette took so long to cook?)Bizarrely I had barely sat down when our food arrived! Immediately it was quite obvious that our meals had probably been left on the side and were tepid at their best and cold at their worst. When the Waiter was informed of this, unfortunately he compounded matters by stating he could take them back to the Kitchen to be reheated ( all dishes contained Cheese!!) The Manager was duly called ( he had already had to deal with another table who weren't happy as they had had to wait and their Food was either cold or over cooked) The Managers Customer Service was absolutely non existent. He felt an offer of redoing meals was sufficient - we'd already waited nearly 2 hours by this time and were not confident our original meals wouldn't be reheated. There was no offer of a goodwill drink or such like. His whole attitude was that nothing like this normally happens- he'd had 8 people send their meals back in less than 10 minutes!!!. I have to say that this is the first time I have ever walked out of a Restaurant because the Food and Service was so atrocious. Personally I would give a 0/10 if I was able to..”

“For first impressions we won’t be back. After initially taking our food order we then had no service we had to go to the bar to order more drinks while waitresses stood around doing nothing. We then had to go back to bar to chase our order as we had been waiting for 1 hour & a half! To be served with cold food & stale bread. All four of our dishes weren’t edible, when complaining our waiter suggested reheating said food…before getting the manager who then although offering to make 4 new plates didn’t have the best attitude to what we all had to say nor very apologetic. We at which point didn’t want to waste any longer waiting for more food. So walked out. There was also a separate table with similar issues over food quality and again watching the same poor response from management. When asking about the kitchen to which the manager replied with they have no issues tonight at the pub. If you have no issues then these standards are terrible. Poor quality food/service. It’s a shame as the pub is in a lovely setting! But restaurant is to be avoided.”

“The pub is lovely, staff are so friendly, however the food is somewhat lacking!! The mushrooms with blue cheese on sourdough have never seem any blue cheese. The BBQ burger didn’t have any BBQ sauce. The pork loin was delicious.”
