  “Not a bad meal but very average. Not even half full and yet the service wasn’t particularly fast or engaging in any way. We had a coeliac in our party who struggled to get any allergen advice from the waiter. Food was a tad salty as well. Just wasn’t worth the £40 per head for a very average takeaway curry. Another weird point to note is that the tables aren’t big enough to start bringing out a serve your own style of meal, we were struggling on a table for 4! Presentation was nice and the setting was ok but the food and service were average at best”

  “While staying at the Village Hotel, I decided to go for a walk and ended up dining at The Raj. Upon entering, I was promptly greeted by a polite member of staff and asked for a table for one. The restaurant was fairly quiet at the time, which made for a relaxed atmosphere. After being seated, I took a look at the menu. The staff member returned and kindly asked if I’d like a drink—I ordered a Coke Zero. He also offered a poppadom with condiments, so I opted for one with chili pickle, which was a nice way to start the meal. For my main course, I chose a chicken balti, accompanied by rice and a garlic naan. The presentation was appealing, and everything looked well-prepared. The rice was particularly good—light and fluffy. However, the chicken in the balti was slightly tough, which took away from the overall experience. The dish itself was decent but didn’t stand out as anything particularly memorable. Portion sizes were generous—more than I could manage, in fact, and I ended up leaving some behind. Overall, it was a pleasant enough visit with friendly service, but the food was just average rather than exceptional.”

  “Absolutely unacceptable experience. We visited as a family of eight and were treated with complete disregard from start to finish. The wait time was extremely long, and even after finally being served, the service was shockingly poor. For starters, only four plates were brought out for eight people — the rest of us were simply ignored, with no explanation or apology. It didn’t get any better. When we ordered desserts, we waited over 15 minutes, and they never arrived. No one bothered to check on us, update us, or even acknowledge the delay. It felt like we were invisible. What made it even worse was the clear difference in how other customers were treated. Staff seemed attentive and responsive to others, while we were consistently ignored. It left a very bad impression and made the whole experience feel uncomfortable and disrespectful. Overall, extremely disappointing service. Would not recommend this place if you expect basic courtesy and professionalism.”

  “I had a meal alone, just a quick bite to eat. It was my first time dining here, and I was pleasantly surprised. The curry was delicious, the rice was great, and the bindhi was fresh and tasty. The prices were reasonable as well, and the food was served quickly. The decor was fine, though it’s not your traditional curry house layout; it’s larger and located in a more modern building. While this may slightly detract from the atmosphere, it didn’t bother me. I was there for the curry, and it was exactly what I wanted.”

  “I took my son here after visiting the cinema. The food was very tasty and the service was spot on. We had a curry, rice, naan and a drink each. A shade under £50 including the service charge.”

  “The Raj is totally different to any of the "just another Indian restaurant". In order to realise this major difference, just walk in and ask for the chef's special "Molecular Gastronomy" dishes. These dishes will blow your mind as they look like supermodels and taste like a dream.”
