Quick info
About The Boat Inn
On Old Kingsbury Rd in Sutton Coldfield, The Boat Inn is a canalside pub that sits directly on the water. Boaters moor up and call in, and walkers come along the towpath, so people arrive both by water and on foot. The kitchen gives its food an Indian twist. Curries such as the desi lamb curry share the menu with the mix grill, which gives the pub a food offering beyond the usual pub fare. Dogs are welcome and are kept on a lead.

Customer Review Summary
Reviewers praise the canal setting most, with outdoor picnic tables and boaters mooring up for a break. Food is close behind: a mix grill and desi lamb curry, cobs, and freshly home made pizza on a theme night. Staff are called friendly and welcoming. One reviewer found the separate bars for drink and food orders confusing at first, and another mentions a little parking trouble.

“After a brisk walk down the canal with the partner and dog it’s always nice to pop into The Boat for a refreshing pint, a Prosecco and one or two of their super amazing cobs. Always very friendly, accommodating, very good atmosphere with a lovely local rustic touch. Definitely recommend a visit.”

“It's a great little place on the canal at the edge of Birmingham, with lots of picnic tables to sit outside and relax. There are often boaters mooring up and coming in for a break and you will sometimes see people paddling a long boat or in kayaks - which adds to the fun vibe. It's a dog friendly pub, as long as your furry friend is on a lead and well behaved - which they always are. You can take a short walk around the block, along the canal, or carry on towards Curdworth and join the "yellow brick road" if you want a longer route. The beer is good quality and reasonably priced, especially on Mondays. The restaurant side had a refurb last year, with a rugged look which freshened the place up. The food is served from 4pm and has an Indian twist which works. I had a veg platter which was good. They have live bands too, I saw a Madness tribute which was loads of laughs. It's a good little pub!”

“It was a bit confusing at first but then we were tired and wet from 7 hours of cruising and locks. One bar to place drinks orders, the other to place food orders. …”
